He definitely mouths something towards the camera as he pounds his chest.

Yeah tried turning it up but just made the commentator louder, nice touch if so!

If my lip reading is right, he said - "...Petrov - that's for you!"

I think he shouts "Staaan!" first, and then this.

I'm no lip reader but if you watch his lips he seems to be mouthing Petrov.
Good on him if so.

The Sun are reporting that the cause of Petrov's cancer came from the Chernobyl meltdown if anyone's interested

article here: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/4244576/Chernobyl-meltdown-gave-Petrov-cancer.html

Quote
The Aston Villa captain — known as Stan — was just six when a toxic plume from the exploding Ukranian energy plant fell over Bulgaria in 1986.

Radiation in the northern area of Montana where he grew up was 1,000 to 1,300 above normal levels, according to Dr Mihail Iliev, Bulgaria’s team medic for 20 years.

But Dr Iliev, 61, said leaders of the former Communist state did not tell the population about the danger as they harvested vegetables.

He said: “It was in the late spring, the population was eating fresh radioactive vegetables and other foods. Many people who were kids back then suffered cancer because of this.

“We called them The Chernobyl Kids. Most were born in the same region as Stiliyan.”

Petrov, 32, was diagnosed with acute leukaemia after feeling tired during a Premier League game.

Dr Iliev said: “There are no other cases of such illness in this family, that is why I think Stiliyan is a victim of the old communist regime’s lack of information when the nuclear reactor at Chernobyl exploded, and the radioactive cloud came to our country.”

Chernobyl is just 650 miles from Bulgaria’s capital Sofia.

After the disaster, Bulgarians reported seeing “a strangely- coloured sky of eerie shades”.

Radiation caused widespread genetic birth defects in the former Soviet Union.

The Union of Concerned Scientists says it will eventally cause 50,000 cancer cases, half of them fatal. Campaign group Greenpeace believes the cancer figure will be 200,000.

At the time, Bulgaria’s leaders toed the Kremlin line and kept quiet — but shipped-in uncontaminated foreign food for their own families. After the fall of dictator Todor Zhivkov, a deputy health minister and former deputy PM were found guilty of criminal negligence in misleading the public and jailed for five years.

How do we keep abreast of how Stan's doing with his treatment? I expect he just wants to get his head down and get through it with his family and friends around him but it'd be a shame if he started to feel alienated after the initial outpouring of support. Is there an online messages of support kind of thingy or anything like it in existence that anyone knows of?

In the interview on Football Focus Saturday with Neil Lennon he said he had been to see Stan last week and he was given some good news that they had caught it very early.

My friend is doing the walk with Beefy to raise money. I mentioned it earlier in the thread. He is a Norwich City fan and Villa have given him a signed shirt to wear and then auction off afterwards.

He is looking to raise £1000 and is now on £880 odd, anyone who wants to help him get to the £1000 please click the link

this is on the BBC website

Stiliyan Petrov 'positive' about leukaemia recovery

Stiliyan Petrov has made his first visit to Aston Villa's training ground since being diagnosed with acute leukaemia and is "feeling positive", says first-team coach Gordon Cowans.

Cowans revealed the Villa captain visited the training complex last week.

Petrov was diagnosed last month and has been undergoing treatment.

What is leukaemia?
Leukaemia is cancer of the white blood cells. Symptoms include pale skin, tiredness, breathlessness and susceptibility to infection. Acute leukaemia means the condition progresses aggressively and needs immediate treatment.

On average 2,500 adults are diagnosed with acute leukaemia in the UK each year, according to Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research

"He was so bubbly. He took his hat off and has shaved his hair and looked very well. He is very positive he is going to beat the illness," said Cowans.

The Bulgarian midfielder's condition was diagnosed after he developed a fever following his team's defeat at Arsenal. The Villa supporters paid tribute to Petrov in their next match against Chelsea, before he started his treatment on 2 April.

"He looked really well and was feeling positive about himself," added Cowans.

"He's got a hard week this week [with treatment] but he is a fighter and will come through this."

Aston Villa, who are 15th in the Premier League and six points above the relegation zone, have taken only two points from their last four matches without Petrov and Cowans wants the team to finish strongly in honour of their captain.

He said: "It has been uplifting and the rest of the lads need to look at that. Everyone is on his side and behind him.

"What we really need to try for Stiliyan is to get ourselves out of the mess we are in at the moment."

Walked the Clent Hills with the Botham crew, a bit humbling really especially the young kids there who are in the middle of their treatment.

Just seen on SSN that fans turned out yesterday at the Bulgarian national stadium to show support for Stan. They turned out on the 19th April at 19:00 for 19 minutes.

Great show of support and would have been nice if we could have done something similar at Villa park.

Then again the press would have proberbly said we where protesting about something.
