Just a word about the Pears, although I realise that we don't have much support among H&V members. We've just had a couple of good wins, including beating the table leaders by 54 runs today, and are just 1 point behind the Bears with 2 games in hand. We have a young leg-break bowler, a 3rd generation D'Oliveira, who took 3 wickets today. Like Villa, we're a team of few stars but with several promising youngsters who may or may not make it at the top level.

Weather permitting, I should be at the T20 tomorrow after work at Edgbaston.

Have you seen the forecast for tomorrow? Unless they are playing it in the indoor school we have got no chance.

Thought about it.
Then looked at the forecast and decided to plan a few pints nearer home instead.
Might still head over if the expected "months rain in a day" was grossly exaggerated by the weathergirls.

While they're having a rain break in the tennis, I'll give a summary of the games on the last day of the Twenty20 Group Stage.
The top two in each group go through to the quarter-finals, along with the two best third-placed teams.
The group winners along with the best runner-up get a home quarter-final.
Bears started the day third in their group, level with Worcs and Somerset but with an inferior Net Run Rate, and one point clear of fourth-placed Gloucs.
A win will definitely be enough to progress. A tie could still see them eliminated while they could, technically, go through with a defeat.
Bears are currently 6/0 off 1.1 after we let Glamorgan get more than they should have done, 173/5.
Northants-Gloucs currently rain-delayed. Best hope it keeps raining as Northants are struggling on 31/4 off 8.3. If Gloucs win, we need to win too to go through.
Worcs made 119/7, Somerset currently 29/0 off 3.2.
If Bears lose and Gloucs don't win, third place could be enough for the Bears so long as Durham don't hammer Lancs. Lancs made 133/8, Durham currently 17/0 off 2.5.

Rain stopped play. As it stands we'll lose on D/L and Gloucs will get a No Result. Will all come down to Net Run/Rate and I'm not sure who goes through.

Bears lost on D/L. Even in the unlikely event that play resumes in Northampton and Gloucestershire somehow contrive to lose. This is because we have ended up with a worse Net Run Rate than the other two third place finishers, Essex and Durham.
I reckon we've been pretty unluckly considering we have lost so many matches to the rain.
Oh well, just have to settle for the double then.
Worcestershire have lost but they'll sneak through.
