Bears/Pears/Domestic Cricket Thread 2012
« on: March 28, 2012, 07:38:31 PM »
The new domestic season starts on Thursday 5th April with the Pears in action against Notts. The Bears don't start their 1st class campaign until a week later against Somerset.

What are your hopes and expectations for the new season?

Personally I'd like to see the Bears challenge in the Championship and have a decent season in the one day format. We seem to be able to manage either or in a season but not both.

Woakes misses the start of the season and will be missed but otherwise we have a reasonable squad capable of challenging for honours.

I think Warwick overachieved in the Championship last year. I think we'll finish around mid table this year.

More than capable of putting good runs together in the one day stuff.

Would be happy with Pears staying in Div 1 again - would like a decent one day season and an appearance on 20/20 finals day is looooong overdue.  GO PEARS!

Boyd Rankin now out for six weeks, but on the bright side Woakes reckons he'll return by the end of April, so not as bad as first feared.

Mid-table in the championship, mid-table in the Pro40, losing Twenty20 Quarter-Finallists, I reckon.

If Rankin could steer clear of injuries then a decent season could see him towards the England squad. He seems injury prone so it's unlikely to happen.

Alan Richardson rewarded for 70 odd Div 1 wickets last year with a place in the Wisden cricketers of the year list.

Great reward for an old pro who gets better as he gets older.

Suspect we'll need more of the same this year to stand a chance of staying up.  Go Pears!

Marston are giving away 500 free tickets per day for the Bears vs Pears Twenty20on Friday June 16th. Two tickets per person.

The game is live on Sky.

I think they are doing this as England play Sweden in the Euro Championship. They state the game will be on the big screen at 8pm (though I thought the match was at 6pm).

£1.50 per ticket booking fee.
