The media then said Liverpool have bought a good player in Carroll, didn't bat an eye lid on his fee
That's not how I remember it.

I think pretty everyone realised how mental the fee was from day one - media included.

The way I recall it was the media hailing a bold, ambitious statement of intent from their beloved King Kenny. Not wasting most of a massive windfall on a carthorse with discipline problems.

Completely agree with Meanwood, the media thought it was a wonderful signing for Liverpool, reminded me of Newcastle signing Shearer in his prime the way they harped on about it.

Thing is Liverpool are falling into the trap of predominantely buying British, they're paying a shit load for very little talent. To compound matters Dalglish plays Henderson, who I think is a talented player although worth nowhere near what they paid, in the wrong position. It's very amusing, he's essentially taking the O'Neill approach to transfers and it's going to do them in.

The media seemed to think the fee was justified as Liverpool were "buying potential" where as we all thought it was madness

Id gladly swap all 5 strikers in exchange for torres!

Then you're a lunatic.

Torres is still top quality and world class just undergoing a blip in confidence but when he scores a few he will be world class , you would rather heskey, bent, gabby and a couple of youngsters than torres - you must be kidding.

torres is the complete striker , gabby isnt a natural goalscorer, bent can finish and nothing more, and heskey is a cabbage , -torres would never come here in a million years though and we would never be able to afford him ,he will soon rediscover his form and be one of the worlds top strikers again.

Why hasn't he scored in 24 hours then?

That's not a blip in form.

As I said on the previous page, he's approaching 2 years of mediocrity, how much longer can this be classed as a "blip in form". People have been saying he will rediscover his form for at least 18 months now.

The situation with Torres is obviously mental, it is not the first time that a guy with all the talent in the world has succumed to the equivilant of writers cramp. He has never recovered from the injury that he had prior to the World Cup.

Torres is technically good. However, he was best at Liverpool when playing like Bent does for us. Basically, like Dazza, that can entail doing very little over 90 minutes but then putting chances away when called upon to do so. His workrate wasn't great but he scored.

In fairness to Nando, since moving to Chelsea he does work harder for the team and his link play might well be okay, but who cares? He doesn't score any more and his confidence is now down the toilet.

Furthermore, Liverpool sold him at the right time. He's just had a few injuries too many (tail end of Liverpool career and thus far at Chelsea) and he's lost his pace. Teddy Sheringham could out sprint him.

Would I swap? Absolutely not. Bent is delivering for us and when he's back we have the potential to get even more from him.
Above all, Torres wouldn't give a flying fuck about our club and in the highly unlikely event he'd consider joining us it'd be purely to further his career. Bent isn't the most loyal player I know, but he probably appreciates us to some degree, and the size of the club.

Obviously.

Who would you be expecting him to join?

Obviously? I admire your confidence.

I would expect him to join anyone who ponies up the cash.

Just saying I wouldn't be surprised if he'd played his last game for us. Always wanted to sign him but we did so too late, and has felt for a long time it's a case of right player, wrong timing.

I'd agree.

Who did you have in mind?

Well, that would depend on how much we would ask for, and that I do not know.
