Actually no, even 'pay-as-you-play' deals have a pretty solid basic salary.

Woodgate at Stoke was on a system where he was paid about £15,000 per week anyway, but was then given £20,000 for every game that he played.

There are a hell of a lot of young players who might find themselves out of the game and that is a shame. On the flip side i look at people Heskey on that list and just think "thank fuck for that"
