only Chelsea, Man Utd, Liverpool and Southampton have a higher net spend than us this summer...

Southampton have outspent us, that just shows how low we have sunk as a club.

Indeed a club who were in Administration were they not a mere 3 or so years ago.

Great business in the transfer window but I can't help thinking that we should have gone in for Natalie Sawyer as well. Perhaps we need to keep abreast of developments on this....

Overall I'd say I'm reasonably happy with the business we've done.  The only sticking point I can see is that we haven't brought in a proper holding midfielder.  I imagine that PL doesn't think he needs a specialist midfielder for that position though and that the whole team will pressure the ball and attack.  Certainly makes things more interesting, not so much for the weekend but after the international break.
Didn't Westwood say that that's pretty much what he does (and Lambert told him he'd suit his plans well); nothing fancy, just holds it and makes simple passes to his team mates?

Which is nice.

Is he?  I admit I know nothing about him but my limited research seemed to say he was more of a playmaker.  Hopefully that'll help cover that then.

As usual you're right Dave. We should have spent Multi Millions on players past their sell by date on stupid wages we can't afford just to prove that we are a more macho club than the next.l

Well, everyone has said he's a playmaker, and the player he likened himself to was Michael Carrick. So a deep-lying playmaker then.

Let's see what they spend next year before calling them the new Swansea.

PL et al have hopefully made some really good signings who will progress and improve along with the team/club over the longer term. He clearly sees we have a load of expensive shit on our books and wants to build his own team. ANY team "outspending" us means absolutely nothing to me. It's how they play and the contribution they make that matters. We've spent millions on the likes of Heskey, Hutton and Beye in the past...and what did they help us achieve?

I'm positive about Lambert's desire for young, hungry players who want to play for their club rather than prima donnas like Dempsey who wanted to go to Pool but didn't...!!??

I do really hope QPR and Mark Hughes implode.  Something that really annoys me about shitty little clubs with average gates of 203 spending shitloads just to prove they can.

It's the impression I got from listening to his interview. Like you (and probably every other Villa fan) I know very little about him except that several PL clubs were interested and "experts" think it's a good deal.
Fingers crossed mate!
