Wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.
He treated us like crap after we had stuck by him when he was injured and then a bit crap- he chose to leave us in the way that he did and I hope he never comes near VP again.

is the right answer

Devil's advocate here....
Apart from us signing him when injured, what did he do that was so different to "our Jimmy"? Or any other modern day footballer?

As I said earlier, Milner regularly put a good shift in - Downing rarely did, in spite of his undoubted ability, pace and potential to be a BIG asset to the team. He went hiding far too often.
If that's what modern footballers do then I'd rather not see them at VP. And I think we've seen quite a few of those at VP in recent years. Perhaps that's why PL is buying the sort of players he is and Rodgers is making the points he is about Downing and Carroll. They may have cost a lot of money and be on big wages but it doesn't mean they are a significant asset to the team.

Not a hell of a lot. But in fairness to Milner, he can at least say he went to win things and further his career. With Downing I think he went purely for money and to also desert what he probably felt was a sinking ship. On the pitch, Milner was absolutely brilliant in his final season. He worked his bollocks off for every one of the hundred plus games he played in his time at Villa. Downing didn't always do that. The DJ may have been our best player in the Houllier season, but that said, he was largely average. It was a 7/10 season at best. He was simply the best of a bad bunch that year.
Downing just invokes a feeling of frustration within me. He is a weasil. As for Milner, I didn't appreciate the way he left, but it wasn't quite the bridge burner of some of our former stars and I still like him. He was a brilliant player for us. Very reliable. As it happens I think had he stayed with us, O Neill would have too and Milner would be one of the best central midfielders in the top flight at this point. He's a bit of a go to option at City to fit in where and when needed. It's a shame. Mancini likes him because he's reliable and works his nuts off, but he's playing mostly as a fairly routine winger. He's wasted there.

I wasn't talking about his contribution on the pitch, more on the way he left us compared to the way most players do when they beleive they have a better offer. IMO I thought he was good player for us, yes Milner put a good shift in but also ran into dead ends and wasted crosses, but it's all about opinions.

99% of footballers don't give a shit about the club they play for anymore, it's about getting best deal.

Milner had one good season for us, one average one and one promising one (when he was on-loan). He's not considered good enough to be a central midfielder at City. No shame in that but his hardwork trumps his technique and that's shown by him being shunted out to the wing for club and country. The fawning over him just gets tiresome. Barry will always be a better player, even with a fatter arse and seven or eight years on him.

As for these lower-league signings. All well and good and maybe a reality check for our vaunted young lads. We desperately need two or three decent, experienced players in by the weekend though.

Couldn't agree more Tom. I think Milner could have been a massive player/hero for us for a long time rather than just the few years he was with us. He sort of deserved his chance to go to "better" things but I always wonder if he regrets it - as you say, he is only a sort of fill-in grafter at city and Mancini knows he won't let the team down.
I suppose being on a massive wage eases the anguish of not playing every week and City fans thinking he's a bit of an okay journeyman in comparison to their silo full of "stars".

I would imagine the reports of us going for Jordan Bowery would be to add to the squad and we are still after a striker with more pedigree like Benteke. If this deal does not go through hopefully we have a plan b in place.

Is Heskey fixed up yet? eek

I'd love us to get Zarate. I had to rub my eyes when I saw a player like that turning out for the shower of shit at the Sty.

Zarate is quality and very exciting to watch. It is very unlikely, but him and Benteke in before Friday night and we would be a very different proposition to play against.

This.
He'd be a great partner up front with Bent and offer a bit more movement - not Darren's strong point.

Milner was absolutely brilliant in his final season.

As was Downing, which led to him getting the player of the year awards. He was without doubt bordering on fantastic at times that season, and certainly a massive part of the good bits I remember from it.

I'd have him (and Milner, Barry, Young) back tomorrow. Simply because all are way better than what we have now. no matter how much each of them annoyed me when they left.

Downing has never been "brilliant" over a season and never will be. He's just a tad too lazy and spineless, a pity as he has such ability. A lot of Boro supporters were glad to see the back of him, especially for the money we paid, just as we were laughing all the way to the bank with the 20 million we got for him. He's was very good for us in rare moments, never consistently, and I think these weaknesses have been highlighted even more at Liverpool who clearly regret splashing the cash on him. Ask any Liverpool supporter.
I agree that what we had before was better than what we have now and I often wonder how good we could have been with the 4 you mention above with Bent to finish off their creativity.

Milner was never brilliant for us either. Never understood the Milner love in. He shit on us from a height and left as soon as a wad of cash was waved in front of him. A bit like Downing really. Saying that I'd still welcome both of them back anytime. Much much better than the average shit we have now.

Pelty ...

what exactly is wrong with Villa fans exchanging views on potential signings - or the state of the club as they see it - with other Villa fans?

And if you don't like what I write, take it up with my English Teacher.

Nothing at all wrong with it. What is wrong with replying to these views?

I am pleased that you agree with 'absolutely nothing'. No need to  bother the manager then, I am sure he has better things to do right now.
