Pelty ...

what exactly is wrong with Villa fans exchanging views on potential signings - or the state of the club as they see it - with other Villa fans?

And if you don't like what I write, take it up with my English Teacher.

we will be relegated starting with Bowery next game .   Lets hope there is some proper signings.

Hands up if you're a better judge of young football talent than Paul Lambert!

But that's a total non-argument isn't it?

It's like confronting anyone on here who criticises anything ANYONE does in the PL with the same question.

So we've signed a striker with less than a 1 in 8 scoring ratio and QPR, fucking QPR are about to sign Esteban Granero from Real???? Is this some terrible dream?

, so why not allow him the opportunity to build the team his way without suggesting that he would really be building a Barcelona-like squad if "only that pesky Randy had not thwarted him."

So can I infer from that we have tabled a bid for Messi?

If Bowery had been a leading goalscorer in the lower leagues for a season or two fine. Snap him up and try and develop him for the future, but nothing in his stats indicate that that is the case, even Chesterfield fans are bemused by the move. Sadly i don't think we can afford this kind of indulgence at the moment. We need people to come straight into the side and improve it. Surely the Fonz is better than this guy?

I think the point is we almost to a man think we have a good boss in Lambert but nerves fray quicker after the shite of the last couple of seasons.

Case in point being how, when in a happy place, we could try and justify buying the likes of Harewood. In a bad place, and its all shit.

Pelty,

we live in a world that has walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with scarves. Who’s gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinburg? I have a greater responsibility than you could possibly fathom. You weep for Mcleish, and you curse the O'neills. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know. That Martin’s death, while tragic, probably saved lives. And my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, saves lives. You don’t want the truth because deep down in places you don’t talk about at parties, you want me on that wall, you need me on that wall. We use words like honor, code, loyalty. We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punchline. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very freedom that I provide, and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather you just said thank you, and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you pick up a weapon and stand a post. Either way, I don’t give a damn what you think you are entitled to.

I have no problems with signing players like this but if this is all we do sign in the next couple of days we are in deep trouble.

good luck to the kid. I hope he is everything that Paul lambert sees in him and much more. There really is no reason to get all wound up. I would hope that he brings in established players also, but we have to leave him to do his business. You cannot trust the man one minute and then all of a sudden lose faith on him because he buys someone most of us haven't heard of. Moyes has been lauded for doing just that, and there have been many on here complaining while MON spent millions on average footballers why we weren't more like Everton.

Give both Lambert and Bowery a chance, and frankly all of the other players we've brought in.

it doesn't work like that though. Beckford showed a superb goalscoring record in the lower leagues doesn't translate, and right now nobody is touching Rhodes. Scouts might have seen something in him to make them say he has potential based on a number of factors that are important to this management team. Just because he hasn't torn up the league doesn't mean that he will never make it.

To be honest, I don't really remember many people justifying the Harewood signing at the time.

Like I said, there's nothing wrong with buying players for peanuts from the lower leagues, if you see potential in them. The reason so many people are moaning is because they think Bowery is the answer the club sees to our goalscoring dilemma.

It almost certainly won't be, as we'll see in the next two days.

With regard to Pelty - fair point, if that's the sort of player PL wants to sign, and it's not about Randy holding the purse strings ever tighter, but I don't see how anyone can really be surprised lots of people think it is the latter, given the clawing back of spending over the last two years.

He could be our new striker for backup cover for new signing and bent.  But if he is first choice partner we will be in trouble. But everyone deserve a clean slate when moving to Villa Park. I don't care if he score 400 goals in 300 games for AC Milan or 40 goals in 300 games for Orlando Pirates as what matter is how he perform for Aston Villa.

the litmus test will not be this window. I think this window was about creating a base as opposed to bringing in finished goods. It's all good and well bringing in potential, but eventually, be it January or next summer Lambert will need to buy better, more established senior talent to move the needle. The players he has purchased so far will in my opinon create stability, and provide him with the energy and "hunger" that the club has been on about.

When Barry Fry was the manager across the city he used to buy kids like this every week and then move them on in a short period of time.

Ive just rung my cousin who lives in Sheffield but supports Chesterfield. He says the lad gets stuck in can hold the ball up but you wouldnt trust him in a one on one with the goalie.

We know someone like that don't we children.
