Assuming we complete the signing of Benteke tomorrow/friday and we are to sign just one more player before the deadline passes, what position would people like to see covered? I think a midfielder but can't decide between a specialist midfield enforcer DM or a 'make the opposition shit their knickers, tricky attacking midfielder. Can't see the point of another all round box to box type.

I would prefer a winger.............like Adam Johnson

You mean like Adam Johnson, but someone more focused on their football rather than money and 'extra curricular activities'?

That rules out at least 80% of all the players in the premiership...............

Hence PL shopping from outside it!

I did say a winger "like Adam Johnson" ie someone who is quick, can beat a player and have a shot, put in a cross, etc

Someone who can add goals from midfield,an area we've lacked in since Ian Taylor and ,remember how effective we were with Platt. Gerrard,Lampard ,Tim Cahill, and years before, John Wark scored as many goals as the most profilic strikers. Cheap options could be old boys,Whittingham, signed a new contract sadly, and Craig Gardner, yes a Bluenose, but helluva a good shot.

Had a look at Bowery's profile on the Chesterfield site: Here.

Has basically had 3 seasons with the first team, in his second he scored twice in 6 starts, and in the last 12 in 28 starts. Thats not actually that bad, though I've never seen him play and can't comment any more.

Just that quoting '17 goals in 110 games' or whatever is a bit misleading.

But he WILL come back one day Phil, unlike your/my/our ex.

i only liked Milner when he was moved into central midfield,
before that i thought he was massively overated on here abit like Downing was
Milner ALWAYS put a good shift in.
Downing rarely did.
We could do with our Jimmy in central midfield right now!

Ok , Downing was a tart who couldn't tackle and shat on on us at the 1st chance. However, I he created a lot chances and scored goals, he wasn't nowhere near a shit as some people mmake out. At Liverpool on the other hand....

Just add another goal scoring midfielder,a change of role for him,he has probably the hardest shot in the league.... Huddlestone ,give him a freer more advanced role to act as a latter day Bruce Rioch, rather than as a destroyer/ schemer turn him into a schemer /missile launcher

Something about him being expected to play left back if needed. I took it as a veiled threat to the spineless one to do some fu**ing work on the pitch if he wants to get in the team and stay there.
Have I dreamt this?

Rodgers' quotes on Carroll. The winger talk sort of suggests Downing -

Quote
“Obviously, I have seen a lot of the links and it is great that those players would want to come here, but the reality is that we are not in a position to do those sort of deals at this stage,” Rodgers said. “The reality is, financially, we need to repair, so the players being linked for the money mentioned, I don’t have the ability to sign in this window.

“I respect players and I’m precise with my information so they know where they stand. We all come into the profession knowing what the job is. Ultimately, it comes down to what your objective is as a player.

“I can only be straight. I’ve made it clear I have a 1 to 11, cover players and development players. Some of the development players may become starters. If you fit outside that, I will tell you. Then it’s up to the player. Does the player want to play football?

“You don’t need to be a rocket scientist to see Andy has been a cover player for us and has been excellent in terms of his attitude and acceptance of where he is at, but as a football club, I don’t think we are in a position to have £35 million players as third-choice strikers, or wingers who are on £5 million-£6 million a year. This is the challenge I have.”

We could do worse than Downing on loan.

Wouldn't piss on him if he was on fire.
He treated us like crap after we had stuck by him when he was injured and then a bit crap- he chose to leave us in the way that he did and I hope he never comes near VP again.

I would imagine the reports of us going for Jordan Bowery would be to add to the squad and we are still after a striker with more pedigree like Benteke. If this deal does not go through hopefully we have a plan b in place.
