Assuming we complete the signing of Benteke tomorrow/friday and we are to sign just one more player before the deadline passes, what position would people like to see covered? I think a midfielder but can't decide between a specialist midfield enforcer DM or a 'make the opposition shit their knickers, tricky attacking midfielder. Can't see the point of another all round box to box type.

I would like a leg breaker try-to-get-past-me-if-you-can midfielder like Joey Barton.

Someone who can unlock and create with a bit of trickery. Gouffran, just cos he seems a bit exotic.

You mean like Adam Johnson, but someone more focused on their football rather than money and 'extra curricular activities'?

That rules out at least 80% of all the players in the premiership...............

I've got no problem with us signing these younger lower league players, infact it excites me but we could really also do with a model experienced premier league pro in midfield, kind of how Everton have Phil Neville.

I agree with you Som.   Loan signings can do a job and solve a problem.   The arrangement taken on face value is of benefit to the loaner and loanee club.   It starts to become shark infested water when players are loaned out which are not all they may seem.   There are plenty of totally unscrupulous managers out there who would loan out a player with problems only he and the player knew about.

You could be correct, but we all knew about Jenas. We actually took him on loan with an injury. Yes, you can't predict a snapped achilles (or whatever tendon went), but it was assured he would have been out with pulls and strains all the time as he is a Mr Glass.

Big problem with loan signings is they can only ever be a short term fix if the club which holds their contract is going to snatch them back once you have brought them on or leave you to pay their wages if they get knackered, then snatch them back.

TBH, we are at a level that a loan signing or two from the higher clubs would be a respectable tactic until PL can build further. I also expect him to make wiser choices then Sicknote Jenas.

Spot on. Someone like Benayoun from Chelsea.
Nursery tweeted we had asked about Sturridge but he thought it was unlikely. I would love that!
You and me both. Apparently Liverpool are sniffin around Sturridge for around £10m. I know its merely a pipe dream, but signing Sturridge with Milner on loan would put a whole different perspective on things. If only.

i only liked Milner when he was moved into central midfield,
before that i thought he was massively overated on here abit like Downing was

Hence PL shopping from outside it!

Milner ALWAYS put a good shift in.
Downing rarely did.
We could do with our Jimmy in central midfield right now!
