Rumours Dempsey having medical at Sunderland tomorrow, gosh I remember those days under MON, it was good and we had fun, but the come down is definatly not worth it.

Bent instead of Heskey and we'd have seen Champions League football.

So many times with the Villa, we've been 'one player' away from a great team.

No goldfish memory here but he's (NRC) worse than that, can't pass, can't shoot, can't head a ball and can't really tackle even though people go on and on about him being a midfield enforcer. He professed at one time to be the best box to box midfielder in Europe the truth is he has now found his true level.

He always kept us ticking. I was a big fan of his. He was immense for us on his day (away at Anfield for example) and pretty good the rest of the time. He had limitations but he was very good at the simple things, had energy, was strong and could run with the ball when we were under pressure at the back. That's better than what we get from Bannan and a few others.

Dempsey is going to be a massive fee and big wages, but Johnson, Dempsey and Fletcher is a good frontline. Bruce had put together a decent squad before MON but on decent money. I would imagine their loss column next summer looked a bit scary.

David Moyes believes Paul Lambert has what it takes to bring out the very best in Villa - but insists it will take time.

Moyes oversaw a 3-1 win for Everton at Villa Park, goals from Steven Pienaar, Marouane Fellaini and Nikica Jelavic doing the damage.

In spite of the defeat, Lambert has been backed by his opposite number to strengthen Villa "when he gets his teeth into the job."

Moyes said: "It is a big job for Paul, but Aston Villa are a great club, a big club and once he gets his teeth into it he will be fine.

"He did really well at Colchester, he did well at Norwich and he's got a big club to work with now.

"Given time and the chance, he'll make Aston Villa into a really strong club.

"Villa have had a young team for quite a while. They have had some really good young up and coming players coming through the academy set-up they have there.

"So it is definitely a transitional period at Villa. It was last season when Big Alex was there and now with Paul taking over this year.

"It is going to be hard. Paul is a young manager who has come to a big club and it is a bit like myself when I took over at Everton.

"You are not going to turn things around right away. It is going to take time.

"Paul has got a big job on his hands, which I'm sure he knows.

"No-one can come into any job, and especially one as big as this, and expect it to be correct right away. But the supporters were right behind him and were with the team.

"Probably the downside for Paul is he met a hot Everton team and that was probably a hard thing to take in your first game.

"We knew the crowd would be behind them and it would help if we could calm it down a bit and the first goal did that."

Dempsey is 29 and hitting 30 this season. He'll probably be on a four year contract at £60k a week. They'll hit top half if they bag Dempsey but they will never reach the Champions League and the comedown for them will be just as hard for them as it was for us.

I'm certainly not envious of Sunderlands position. After MON bankrupts them I doubt they can attract a manager of Lambert's status to help steady their sinking ship.

Oh yeh, the Moose. I'm guessing it will be right after Andy Carroll signs for us after the Albion game. I'm sure Dempsey will end up at club not called Fulham by August 31st though I wouldn't believe it from the Moose if he was in possession of the Dempsey's Panini sticker from his new club.

I listened to 5 minutes of TalkShite today. Even more moronic than I imagined, whoever thought it was a good idea to employ Mick Quinn? Mark Saggers used to be a decent presenter on 5Live, he's bloody awful now.

Mickey Quinn is the thickest most 1 dimensional man on radio.
