Im not telling anyone how to support just an 'opinion' on how to get to B6 cheaper.. If yoy prefer to watch it on your smartphone via peoples 'opinions' then great. Just dont have a hissy fit after two games.

I know its not 86/87 the point being how 'fans' cope with adversity. As usual Mazrim a voice of reason. Baker/ Vlaar way togo at back till Tonne is 'fit'..

We've had two years of adversity, this year was supposed to see us getting back on track.

It's our 4th manager in just over 2 years (more if you consider the McDonald and McAllister periods), to expect Lambert to have rectified all the attendant problems in only 2 competitive games is just not realistic.

You could see in the last half hour yesterday that we have the basis of a reasonable side, we just have to trust the manager when he talks about bringing in reinforcements and that longer term he can get them playing. I keep mentioning the 3 injured players but with them and a couple of additional signings the side we are putting out in October will look very different from that which played yesterday.

Thing is we only looked good when Everton took their foot off the pedal. And even then they could still have scored another 3 or 4.

And will Albrighton feature that much with what PL has said about wingers? My concern is we talk about the players to come back but for the last year or so all 3 have been out of form.

There is lot of anger being vented on the match thread about need for quality. So say if we had £20M available who are the two players we can get in for that money that they wil will fix our lack of quality problem?

Michael Owen and Nigel Reo-Coker. I thought this had already been established?
.
Thanks for giving me a belly aching larrrrf... Needed that after yesterday

People in here are funny, it was only last year the mention of Darren Gibson was shot down, yet he helped dominate our midfield yesterday.

NRC is free, available, knows the place and is what we need, people need to remember where we are, we are not top 6 trying for top 4 anymore.

Regarding Owen, he will get goals, even more so than Bent as he doesn't rely on it being put on a plate for him, but it his injuries and wages that are the issue, so I trust Lambert to make the correct desicion.

Exactly, NRC is a limited footballer.  The whole reason i got excited about Lambert's appointment was the fact that maybe the NRC's of this world, limited players with over inflated ego's on big money, would be a thing of the past under a manager that tries to win games and entertain - mid table would be fun if we could achieve that.

I want Paul Lambert type players not failed MON's.

He comes across as a gruff, old school manager but let's not forget that Paul Lambert is still a pup at this level, still learning on the job. Hence weird team selections like yesterday.

My concern in the summer -when we were linked with both OGS and Lambert- was that the Villa job and all that goes with it was too big for someone practically starting out. Unless they were so shit hot that no set of circumstances or adversity could halt their progress.

That's not to knock Lambert, he had stones for taking the job.  And -despite our shite early season form- I don't think he'll retreat into his shell and serve up dour defensive football in the you know who mode.   If we are going to have a bad run at some stage of the season, best to get it out of the way now.

But the very fact that we had to look at predominately young up and coming managers with question marks over them this summer illustrates how much of a battering our status has taken in recent years.

2011 was a line in the sand opportunity for us, keeping hold of at least one of Downing and Ash and acquiring a decent manager would have shown the world that we weren't content to merely sell our best players and make up the numbers. Now we have a serious credibility issue as far as attracting players are concerned.

We pretty much have to go the route of younger players from the lower divisions and gems for cut price fees from abroad.   We can  bounce back, it can be done. But it will be so much harder now.

I didn't say everything was great in the last half hour, I said it showed we had the basis of a reasonable side. Regardless of what Everton did, we showed some bottle and demonstrated that we aren't as bad as the first hour suggested.

I don't buy that Everton  were taking it easy in the last half hour. They were in the mood to score half a dozen. We did find some rhythm and movement and more important fight that shows once Paul gets it right after finding out about players we will compete.

I’d prefer to stick with Herd than get NRC in.  He’d probably want a 3 year deal on 40k a week and he has already proven that he is not good enough.  Whereas with more games and experience Herd could easily match NRC quality and will cost us a lot less.

The club has worked hard to reduce the wage bill so we cannot afford to allocate the money to players like NRC especially when it is likely to be a 3 year commitment.

Herd on the right did not work however I am convinced he does and will work in centre alongside Karim.

A 'reasonable' side is not enough, and Everton could have had another four in the second half yesterday.  We have no left back, an inexperienced central defence, no creativity in midfield, and a main striker who isn't being brought into the games at all.  We need a minimum of three decent additional players before the window shuts, otherwise we are going to struggle, and will be left hoping that somehow money is made available in January, a time when it's notoriously difficult to do decent business.

Although Lambert will have had 6 months with the squad by January, and have a much better idea of what we need to fit his vision I would imagine.

I don't think dunne ,gabby or albrighton will make much difference , all three looked very poor last season and I see nothing to make a significant difference when they are fit .

We need some new blood and quality and experience , we are a squad loaded with young players not ready, under performing older heads who are woefully off form and new players unproven at this level-randy needs to spend and fast.

Dunne and gabby will offer the experience we are missing. Gabby by all accounts was having a decent pre season. We need those two back and then at least sign another two players in before the window closes.

I agree wholeheartedly.  Villa have far too many championship quality players at the moment.  The new signings look quite good but they are surrounded by poor quality players.  The current squad contains far too many who would struggle to get in to the better championship sides.  Bannan, Fonz, Baker, Delph and Herd are all getting plenty of game time at Villa and whilst they all have a bit of promise, clearly are not going to be any better than the bottom five or six of the table.  Add that to Given, who looks cooked, Ireland and N'Zogbia, who look demotivated, I think we have the worst squad of players that I can remember.  Clarke is a classy player but lacks toughness to play at centre back.  Lowton IS a championship player but he'll get better I think.

Paul Lambert seems to be a decent manager. He needs at least three experienced players brought in to this current squad. Some say we are being drama queens after just two games, fair enough but those who say that the kids need time, how much longer do we have to wait until they reach their potential?  I honestly believe that we'll struggle this season unless Lambert is backed with hard cash.
