You think it's perfectly ok for a club to bring a player to the club who can't speak the native tongue?

This happens all the time.

How much English do you think Drogba spoke when he came to this country, for example?

Yes but it should only have ever been a temporary problem?

Watching a few videos he seems to have a knack of finding space in the box, a very very nice trait for a striker.

Exactly what I thought, Paul.

Reading the stories coming out of Belguim, he's very clear in wanting to move to the PL.

Just seen this. Genk are trying to persuade him to sign a new contract, but Benteke wants a move to the PL. Seems a possibility indeed.

Yes, you're right, where was Lerner's crystal ball when we signed Makoun? Half-hearted and lazy of him to not use it.

Can't get a work permit. Whether that is his fault, the club's fault or (probably most likely) a combination of the two we can't use him because he can't work in the UK at the moment.

Why on Earth was he loaned to a team where his work permit would be turned down upon his return then?
Beats me.

Apparently his original work permit was subject to passing an English test after a year. So whoever took the decision to loan him somewhere non-English speaking so he could get it up to scratch dropped a bit of a bollock.

Had TSM not been scared off by the prospect of a midfielder who could pass maybe we wouldn't have this problem though.

The latest post on Ian Robothan's site from an ITK called Mark:

(Refering to the black footballer) "His name is Christian Benteke, 21 year old from Genk, he is a forward and been capped for Belgian u21′s – the other player on his way is Cresswell of Ipswich. The two players will b bought by Randys personal money – no more players coming in till Hutton and Warnock leave the club = FACT"

Now this is exactly the sort of player we should, and in my view will be looking to sign.

And I also think there is money for transfers, but the wage will still needs to drop to make room for them.

Which doesn't even mention whether he should have learned the language in the meantime, you seem to be surprised people are fine with the idea of signing players who don't speak English at the time of signing.

So, yes, of course it's OK.

As for learning it in the meantime, I reckon being shipped off to Greece after a few months isn't really the most motivating factor to get him to make the effort.

Thats a really crap come back to be honest mate. Whether Makoun was lazy about learning the language Lerner should've been protecting his investment surely?

If we have to get rid of Warnock and Hutton before anything really happens I think we might have problems. If anyone is stupid enough to want them they sure as hell will only want them on loan and we still have to supplement their salaries. Unless we get QPR on the phone who seem happy to spunk money on some real shit...

All this Benteke business is based on this:

1. Someone texts Ian Robo to say "I'm at BMH, a car just went in with a black bloke who isn't one of our players" - obviously, nice bit of racial stereotyping going on there, the bloke's black, therefore he MUST be a footballer. Ian Robo, in common with everything anyone ever says to him about anything, tweets this.

2. Someone sends same Robo a DM on Twitter saying it is Benteke, and "Randy is paying out of his own money", whatever that actually means legally and financially, Robo tweets it.

3. Lots of people rewteet this on Twitter.

This to me sounds like an absolute crock of shit on so many levels. A perfect example of Twitter crap spiralling out of control.

When was this black player supposed to be spotted down BH? If it's Benteke, it wasn't today then. Genk left for Switzerland by airplane this afternoon and Benteke was sat in the cockpit...

I just think your expectations about how much a chairman and manager should know about how their signings will turn out are wildly optimistic and borderline mental.

Anyway, Dunne going to Stoke according to the Mail, and Warnock in the reserves with MON to make his move next week, according to the Telegraph.

Fair enough, I think it's perfectly ok for the club to bring in players who don't speak English so I'm not quite sure why I put that. Surely they would insist on the player learning the language in time though?

Three managers, including the one who bought him, chose to either not play him or ship him out on loan.

I suspect that even if Makoun came back speaking perfect English he would not have been considered good enough for the PL.
