I was full of hope this season, new players were coming in, shit ones going out, could not wait for the season to begin and then i get a call from a mate who was there saying "Mate this is just as boring shit that we saw under TSM"

I watch MOTD as he was a little pissed and all i see was a long range effort from Vlaar

Come on randy FFS let the guy have a chance and spend on some decent players - its pretty obvious we need them

How much were you expecting to have changed in the course of one competitive match, though?

Incidentally, if you'd seen the whole match, you'd have seen signs of plenty of things starting to change, but it is going to take time, there's no getting away from it.

I agree, he needs to invest on players, but this isn't something we're going to be able to buy ourselves out of, as it involves changes deep into the psyche of the club, and we can't afford to buy an entire new squad.

The fact is though, that the squad isn't good enough, and with the best will in the world Lambert will only achieve what we'd like in the next two or three years if he's given some money to spend.  No necessarily silly amounts, but the lack of investment in playing matters over the last two years (Bent aside) is a huge blot on the Lerner years.

I watched the whole match and was shocked how poor we were- yes its just one game but we need at least a couple of new signings without doubt- lambert is the business but i really hope lerner backs him with hard cash.
Jones , adam and a decent left back would make a big difference.

Exactly. I like what he is trying to do, but it isn't going to be easy. We kept the ball well, everything was on the floor and anything from given was rolled/passed to our back 4. Watching Collins punt it anywhere was exactly what I don't want to see us doing anymore.
He will do it, he just needs time and patience.

Agree, Lerner hasn't the desire to push us forward anymore. It's all about the balance sheet to him. The sales of Young and Downing for £35M and not re-investing the money back into the team said it all for me. The quality has diminished rapidly in the last two years with his new policy. Six years on and most people on here would be happy with a mid-table finish. It's no different to the Ellis reign.

And money.  The lack of which will probably lead to him not getting much of the first two things!

Whilst fans and manager have/are writing off the old defence and rightly so (Cuellar, Hutton, Collins, Dunne and Warnock) to date both still seem happy to give the attacking players another crack at the whip, and again probably rightly so.  My big fear is that these attack minded players, Delph, Bannan, Albrighton, Gabby, Ireland, Delfouneso, Gardner and N'Zogbia do not step up as we all hope they will, if that's the case we have a major major expensive job of overhauling the squad in these areas.  We need big seasons from most of those guys, to complememt KEA, Holman and Bent, to stand a chance of finishing 8th-10th.

I agree entirely, not saying we don't need money - we patently do, and if he doesn't get it, we'll go nowhere - but that this isn't going to be a case of "buy 8 players comfortable with a passing game in the next two weeks and bob's yer uncle thing".

Even with financial backing, it isn't going to change in the space of one competitive game and a few friendlies against MLS youth sides.

I'm surprised to see that some people on here think it ought to have.

It's sadly gone quiet on the Hutton and Warnock front. Hopefully we can shift them, along with Makoun. Would seem like we need to free up their wages to sign more players.

I might get shot down (with a hail of machine gun fire) but we could do worse than NRC on a free?? I don't think he's quite as horrendous on the ball as some claimed. He wasn't brilliant but at his best he knew to stay within his limitations and give it off to someone better.
I just feel like our midfield lacks a leader, some dynamism, some grit and experience.
I say it for the want of a better option out there who's available and who'd come here.
For all our nice passing, which I appreciate, we could have done with someone to just drive the midfield on and a bit more energy. Diame for the hammers did that. To me he's a similar player to Nige anyway.
I also think with him martialling, KEA would be able to express himself in more dangerous areas.

Right, blindfold on, cigarette lit. Fire away.

Mancini has confirmed Adam Johnston can leave City. I wouldn't mind him in the team instead of N'Zog or Holman.

Ill join you with my blindfold in a minute.....
I had the same chain of thought about NRC on the weekend.  Yes technically, he isn't the best but for breaking up play and a leader on the pitch, I think he would be good to have back but it wont happen.

Not seen enough of Holman to judge but we should at least try and bring in Adam Johnson. Cracking player, hard worker, tonnes of skill, fast and can cross a ball - everything that N'Zogbia isn't.

If Makoun is a step closer to leaving that presumably frees up wages for another one to come in.

The thing with Zog is I reckon if we ever see anything decent from him it will not be consistent enough to warrant him being here. All through his career he never seems to maintain any form for too long. Maybe PL can change this but my gut feeling is he is always going to be a frustrating talent.
I'd get Johnson in and try and sell Zog asap.

If Wigan sell Moses to Chelsea we should look to shifting N'Zogbia back to Wigan.

I've been saying this since last season on here.

Too many people underrate and undervalue Coker and what he can do for the team. He may not be the most gifted of midfielders but he can do a job there.
