Adam Johnson talking to MON's Sunderland.

That would be very disappointing if true.

Spurs interested too apparently.

Henke must be aware of a wideman and a unit front man?

It would be gutting. He is exactly what we are missing. Him and Matt Phillips in place of Holman and NZogbia and we would be a very decent side.

I'd rather drop Ireland and N'zogbia. At least Holman is hard working.

You have to spend to stand-still. It is a fact of life. We don't know how good we are because so many of our players are untested/young.

We might be a decent side or we could sink without trace. We have a good manager and things have been looking up but we still don't know how Clark, Weimann, Gardner etc will turn out.

Would the players be willing to take a drop in wages so the supporters did not have to pay extortionate prices for their tickets?

Sorry, I’m not sure I understand your point there, in relation to how Randy "should shit, or get off the toilet”.

Listening to paul at the recent forum i dont think hes keen on wingers that much and prefers to get bodies in midfield and push the full backs forward- i doubt a winger will be the priority- mon being linked with berbatov, johnson and guidetti today in  the press.

The team we started with yesterday was more or less the best available, which is a worry. The football / possession was promising but;

We have too much reliance on young players who have not been proven at this level and may never be good enough.

We need to get the players / system that gets the best out of Darren Bent. There are no goals anywhere else in the team & no width.

We need a left back, winger & target man as a minimum.

With those players we will comfortably finish mid-table.

Everton signed another striker. Next week could be tough.

I don't want to bring up the 'F' word, but we lose one game 1-0 away and all of a sudden all the calls for patience, quiet optimism, slow progression and congratulating Lerner for actually having a plan give way to a need for root and branch reform of the whole club. I'm sorry, but it just looks totally ridiculous.

I couldn't agree more. I really don't understand what people were expecting. Even if we'd won it wouldn't have indicated that everything was rosy. The first game proved nothing other than we need to address a number of issues. If TSM was in charge I'd be bricking it because I know nothing is going to change. As it is, there is a new manager with a good track record and a real desire to play better football at the club. It isn't going to happen straight away and you'd be naive to think anything different.

On the basis of yesterday fans of Liverpool, Norwich and QPR may as well just pack it in, and fans of Albion, Fulham and Swansea may as well pack their bags for Madrid and Munich in search of Champions League glory. It doesn't work that way. Give it some time. Show the patience that we all said we should show when Lambert was appointed and watch this develop. It won't always be pretty, but building things properly is never simple. We need the current players to develop and new players to come in and help. Yesterday was revealing as much as disappointing, but not at all the end lf the world.

No point sitting on the toilet if you are not going to use it. No point having a good manager if you are not going to give him the finances to compete.

I hadn't realised it is September 1st. Did the clocks go forward in the autumn back home this year instead of back?

I agree, and Lambert is known to change formations etc within games and between games, but I think he is very limited by his tools at the moment. Give him Jones, Johnson and Brahimi for the sake of an argument, and he has options to change shape, tactics, personel to suit the opposition. Yesterday we were hamstrung by having next to no options. I reckon in 2 years time we will not have many of the starting 11 still here, but at the moment we have to make do.

Also interesting to hear Lambert before the game about whether we were ready fitness wise and he was not sure at all, followed with his post match comments about the heat. I think as the season moves on we will create a lot more.

In a nutshell : The current squad lacks quality and quantity - if we fail to strengthen we will struggle, irrespective of who the manager is.
The club promoted season tickets on the back of a positive managerial appointment.
If we fail to add to the existing squad, I, along with countless others who renewed, will feel let down.
Like others I am beginning to think we have overestimated the development or quality of the younger players.
I would be happy to see the likes of Ireland, Nzogbia and even Bent sold to bring in "solid" players from European leagues.
Consolidation this season was the mantra, however without additions to the squad I fear a repeat of last season.
