After todays performance is there anyone who still doesn't think we need another striker... someone like Jones? Of course we shouldn't go into knee jerk mode after the first game of the season but Bent just looked so isolated. If he had someone to support him like Jones he could of at least   made himself available with the ball and getting into positions you would expect him to make as a striker.

Bent isolated himself. Every time the ball went near the final third he went missing. People need to stop assuming that, if a striker doesn't get the touches on the ball, the midfield must be the problem. Bent was anonymous today and his movement wasn't good.
True he did look anonymous but the supporting cast did not help him today at least allowing him to get into positions, make runs etc...

I'm still not sure whether or not Bent needs another striker to play with because he has shown with the right players around him doing the right things he can produce on his own, but at the same time when things don't go to plan he looks like he might need someone up front with him to support him.

And I don't like direct football, I believe if we want to move forward possession based football is the way to go... but a big athletic striker doesn't automatically mean we would have to play direct football.

No, but there's very little point to the big or the athletic if you're not going direct. The forward we need would be more a Robbie Keane type, able to link the play and make the runs beyond.

So you'd have said no to Drogba 5 years ago? ;¬)

Yes, the fecking mule ;).

No, obviously Drogba is a class above, but at the level we're shopping we're unlikely to find someone with that combination of fantastic talents.

Keep visiting this thread in hopes we will be linked to signing some experienced players esp at back and front, only to find banter about, be honest, flim flam. Finger out, Faulkner: two weeks. Speed up.

As we need a bit of creativity maybe we should look at that Routledge fella at Swansea.

I'm absolutely positive we haven't finished in the market yet. I reckon we'll get 2 full backs and a forward at least.

That Routledge bloke looks good. Why don't we find bargains like that.

We absolutely have to buy a couple of pacey energetic full backs, with our midfield being so narrow they're now our only way of getting width. I'd like Bennett from Middlesbrough, a very pacey full back who plays as if he's a winger, not sure about the right back though.

Well we signed one and already have another in Licahj. Just a left sided player we need, I'd say.

I think Bennet will be in before long, just a hunch but will be cheaper than Cresswell, and would provide the attacking threat. Lowton looked ok to me at right back, early days but showed steady promise.

The Anthony Annan link is an interesting one to bolster the centre of midfield on loan or for a reletively low fee, as is the Brahimi on from Rennes which I could see us doing on deadline day as a bit of a gamble, again on loan to give us something different.

N'Zogbia looked much brighter in terms of attitude today, but was awful with the ball, and Holman looked slow and ponderous. How much of that was heat, nerves etc on the opening day remains to be seen. Certainly, were I Lerner, I would be saying a couple of starters and a couple of cheaper gamble options that can make things happen in the final third are sanctioned.

I think the south Korean at Bolton young lee would be a quality addition. Creative and hardworking also very skilful. Seeing kightly score today would have been great if we had signed him hopefully he has put injuries behind he is a good player.   Another striker would be great. Jones, fetcher, berbatov on loan, , even Owen we need some presence up there. Maybe theres another player from dutch league lined up? I'd like us to look at some Spanish players swansea made some good moves and way we seem to play now need players from Spain.

I'm a fan of Lee Chung Yong... He's definitely the type of player we could use and add to our squad. I could see him being a starter.

Yea he broke his leg last year but I believe he played for Bolton today.

Of course a serious injury like that is cause for concern but players who suffer serious injuries today can come back and can come back stronger.
