If we're after a Stoke striker, I'd rather have Crouch back than K. Jones.

Not sure what all the panic is re-transfers. Many of the issues have been resolved, i am a bit disappointed we haven't signed a left back for tomorrow, but otherwise we have done enough at this stage. A few weeks left and lots of links, Poulsen, Defoe, Jones, Johnson. Would be happy with any of them on permanent deals, they would all strengthen us. Just hope we don't over pay wages wise but surely they have learned their lesson. And definately hope they don't loan players, especially from Prem league clubs.

PL isn't panicking and that's what counts.

I'd have Jones if it meant we could give them Hutton in exchange!

I think the Jones/Heskey comparison is a little unfair. Jones has gone better than 1 in 4 throughout his career and is only 27 (Heskey is now 34). There's potential for some sell-on value (though admittedly not a great deal).

If we get Jones, you can imagine pretty much any of our combination of strikers working as a pairing. That's certainly not the case with Defoe. It gives us something we don't currently have.

Not saying there aren't better deals out there. If I were in the market for a target man, I would like one who could also play on his own upfront (a younger, better, cheaper Grant Holt type). Jones isn't that. But I'm not completely against the idea.

I've always thought Jones is a pretty good player, just think you need to get him motivated. He tends to switch off in games, but if you can overcome that he's a handful.

I'm in panic mode. Hard to enthuse too much about the season ahead without some new players being brought in. Fingers crossed Lambert has deals waiting to go through but it seems like these deals are dependent on Hutton, Warnock and Makoun leaving.

All the people panicing seem to be basing it on us not having many new players from a squad that struggled last year.  I guess the important thing is, we had so many players who were never going to work in a TSM team that it's a bit simplistic to judge it that way.  Ireland, Bannan, Nzog, Bent and hopefully Gabby should all be much better this season, which will make a big difference to the side.

I'd have both of them to be honest. Defoe to start either side of Bent with Bent being the recognised forward up front, Bent playing just off him, and Jones to change things up off the bench or to play up front on his own every so often. If we are going to be a proper team then even the best players need to be rested every so often.

Are we just making up fishy puns for the halibut?

NO! There's a time and a plaice for fish puns.

Jones has really good athletic ability for a striker, he's good in the air too. Did he play much with Bent at Sunderland? Can't remember if they were a striker partnership or not...

I can't say for sure but I think having Jones might be more beneficial to the team than Defoe (who is still a good player).

I agree. Defoe might only be beneficial if Bent is unavailable. I think Weimann deserves a chance.

Jones would give us another option.

Always liked Defoe as a striker, and if we didn't have Bent I'd be all for him coming - but they don't play well together. I'd take Jones though. Good foil for our other strikers.
