January if required?? If we don't get a forward before the deadline I think we could be hanging around the bottom six. It was positive when Lambert first took over but we desperately need more numbers in and I think it's desperately disappointing we haven't.......

I’d say that is about right, 15th ish, although I do not think we will be in an actual relegation battle.
Buying a striker - particularly one who would come - would only improve us a small amount, maybe 2 or 3 places (= 3M right?) yet the investment would be a 20M commitment.

I’d prefer to wait and see if The Fonz or Weimann can step up.  Also I am optimistic that after a year with Lambert we will be in a stronger position and therefore we could attract a better players.

When i read posters saying Delfonso shoulod be given a run of games i start to worry, good players will shine in a bad side, when your brought on as a sub thats the time to show you deserve a regular spot. For me he's had ample opportunities.

We need a striker as we have one decent one and the others are average at best

I'd still really like to see Villa buy Jordan Rhodes. They bloke just gives the air of a natural goalscorer.
You're right but I suspect we've missed the boat now that he's scored in his first international game. 'udders will be after a tidy sum (particularly if Wolves get £10m+ for Fletch, a a benchmark).

I beleive that the only transfer priority now will be a LB; the striker position will be a January job, if required.

I was expressing a view about what I think is going on; not necssarily what I would do in their place.
However, much as TSM was given the time to make use of the resources available to him, so too I think PL will feel he needs to time to shape the team with the squad he has before blowing the budget on a striker that will necessarily cost if he is to make a significant impact.
I have my doubts about Delfouneso, personally; although he's looked sharp in pre-season. I think Weimann is still a bit of an unknown quantity. But we know that - in the right set-up and with the right managerial approach- both Bent and Gabby can score goals. The issue is more about their fitness.

But we defeintely need some more talent at the back. At LB, specifically.

So using your theory we should sell Bent, right? Because he looks absolutely shit in a bad side last season, also Gabby after Christmas looked shit, should we sell him too?

Delfouneso has the talent, he just needs to be given the oppurtunity to show it, everyone deserves a chance. I always remember him against burnley, he scored a great goal an then was subbed, he has never been given a chance since really, that must have really affected his confidence, under Lambert I have faith in players like Delfouneso.

Weimann I think is good enough and will have a great season, I'd sign him up now while he'd still be cheap.

Agree, the squad is woefully weak on numbers - Lerner hasn't supported PL in the transfer market. PL may well get players to punch above their weight but ultimately to be consistently successful you need quality in depth and that takes big bucks. Unfortunately, Lerner will not go down that route so he should sell up to someone who'll inject the right funds to push us forward. Since MON left we've gone from the fringe of Champions League qualification to relegation candidates in two years.

I think people are in panic mode early here. There are 2 weeks of the window left, Faulkner said he hoped that there would be a few more ins and outs during the next gen game, and Lambert has not seen them play competitively yet. Even so, we have a new defensive midfielder, a new centre half, a new right back and a new winger come forward. We have a manager with significantly more tactical nous, and a number of players who under-performed last season like NZogbia who have proved themselves before coming to us.

Add that into the conversation between Lerner and Lambert when being appointed. Do people really think he would have come for a transfer kitty of 10 million? There is more to come I am sure.

That is a weak argument, Bent has proved he can be a prolific scorer and his goals saved us when bought in the January, Delfonso has had many opportunities and didn't do anything when loaned to a lower division side.He has skill i'll give you that but you need much more to survive in the Prem.

With Makoun off I'm sure a left back will come in. If Warnock and Hutton can be shifted I think we can expect a big signing, if they aren't I think we probably wont.

Agree.

I don't.

He's had the odd chance here and there largely in struggling sides and often played out of position. I don't see how anyone can claim to have seen enough of him to have formed such a definitive view.

I agree with everything in the first paragraph. With the second paragraph, Lambert has already said that money isn't everything. I think he would have needed assurances that he would be backed but that might mean a steady first season to give people a chance, assess the squad and then spend more significant levels of money next summer once the deadwood (Dunne, Warnock, Hutton etc) are gone and the scouting network has a number of recommendations based on what Lambert has asked for.

Regarding the discussion on Fonz, I don't think he should be given a run of games just for the sake of giving him a chance. I think its up to him to work hard in training and then taking his chance when it comes along. With Gabby out for a while he's bound to get a chance - even if its coming off the bench and performing, perhaps scoring. That's what Weimann and many others have had to do. Weimann suddenly went through a purple patch scoring a lot of goals for the reserves and then came on against Fulham and scored that vital winner. That assured him of more chances and Fonz needs to do the same.
