I've just got a weird feeling Delfoneuso's going to come of age this season. He can finish. He just needs to gain some upper body strength and some confidence.

This sell to buy bollocks is pissing me off. How many seasons of this do we have to sit through? You know what I would like? People to think Aston Villa was planning on challenging for Europe not what we are doing now which is obviously aiming to try and cling in the league as cheaply as possible.

I don’t think its a temporary thing.  We should always be run in a sustainable manner.
Furthermore I want us to be using up all of the wages allocation as that will mean we’re being as good/ambitious as we can be.

I mentioned earlier in this thread that I'd heard that Lambert was looking at taking Fonz to Norwich, so maybe he's seen something there.
I hope so as I think he's a talented lad who just needs a run of games to build his confidence.

He impressed me pre season. Commitment and smart play like I have never seen before from him. I hope the lad makes it.

I think the Fonz is really tidy on the ball and from what I saw last season (unfortunately largely in a deep role given the tactics we played) he doesn't give it away anywhere near as easily as some of his colleagues. If we are playing to feet PL may really value that ability, particularly if others are moving off him to give him support and options. As for his finishing, how can anyone tell based on last season where we were desperately trying not to lose by more than 2, rather than trying to win. I still think the difference between him and some of the youngsters who come through at other clubs is primarily the players around him and their quality, plus the Manager they play for / how they are handled. Hopefully all of this will improve this year.

I'm basing his finishing ability in the games I've seen him produce in I.e Varteks, Doncaster,Blackburn FA Cup 09/10, Portsmouth away, Hereford, Blackoool 10/11.

Which I think is the way to go. He can do it and we shouldn't give up on him.

Well, he has to prove he's good enough to do it, and thereby get a run of games doing it at some point, otherwise he might as well move on, we can't just pay him ad infinitum.

The fact that Weimann broke into the first team ahead of him last year must surely give an indication of where he is in the pecking order.

I'd like all our kids to do well for us, but if they can't do enough to break into the first team - and sometimes it's through no fault of their own - then there comes a point for both player and club where it is more sensible that they move on.

Great to see some love for the Fonz. What I like about him is his good first touch, that's an important asset.

Also, strangely, I was never really impressed by him in the reserves. However, I think his goals-to-minutes ratio in the first-team might be pretty good for a youngster taking his first faltering steps at that level.

Paulie - I don't think we should pay him ad infinitum. But, he does need that run of games he hasn't been afforded (in my opinion). Also, relative costs for him against say Heskey or Harewood make him a 'gamble' well worth taking. He still has potential, he probably has to be given and to take his chance this year or move on and I hope he is given that chance. If not, there will be other younger players come through but I'm sure he'll do OK somewhere else.

We need a striker as we have one decent one and the others are average at best

I'd still really like to see Villa buy Jordan Rhodes. They bloke just gives the air of a natural goalscorer.

You're right but I suspect we've missed the boat now that he's scored in his first international game. 'udders will be after a tidy sum (particularly if Wolves get £10m+ for Fletch, a a benchmark).

I beleive that the only transfer priority now will be a LB; the striker position will be a January job, if required.

January if required?? If we don't get a forward before the deadline I think we could be hanging around the bottom six. It was positive when Lambert first took over but we desperately need more numbers in and I think it's desperately disappointing we haven't.......
