Don't see the point in another striker. We have Bent and Gabby and we're never going to get a proper view of Delfuneso and Weimann if we put another obstacle in the way of their progress.

Gabby went over 20 games without a goal last season , not good enough, for the last 2 seasons.

On the wing. Under TSM. I was surprised any Villa player scored a goal in those 20 games.

We've got four good strikers. We should at least wait until January or next summer before spending a total of £20m on a new one. It's going to be a transition year again so we might as well see what Delf and Weimann are all about.

Lionel messi would have struggled to score for us last season.

Why do we need to spend £20m on a striker? Jordan rhodes would be an option for around £5m.

Rhodes scored shedloads of goals last season - in the third division.

I don't see how he's much more of an option up front that Weimann or Delfouneso (although I'm less convinced by him). Strikes me it'd be money wasted.

I'd wait till January to see how we get on with what we have up front. Gabby in particular has got a fair amount of work to do to convince people of his worth, in my opinion, but he deserves a chance under Lambert.

From what I've seen of pre-season, I'm more worried about the defence. Against Werder - the only team of decent standard we've played this summer - they looked every bit as all over the shop as they did for last season.

Vlaar, I think will be a good signing, and hopefully he and Clark will form a good partnership, but regarding full backs, we look a bit sketchy. Lowton may be a decent signing, but again, he's come from the third division, so it's asking a lot to rely on him to perform straight away.

Lichaj doesn't convince me hugely, Stevens looked decent when I saw him pre season, but again, inexperienced. Warnock, obviously, is shite as is Hutton, but by being left at home at various points this summer, this indicates a certain amount of bridge burning where these two are concerned.

And Jordan Rhodes could end up being no better than the fonz...

for Jordan Rhodes see Jermaine Beckford. Outstanding in the lower leagues, couldn't cut it in the PL at a club that was willing to give him every opportunity given their dearth of talent at that position at the time. There has to be a reason why despite his scoring record the only serious interest in him is from Blackburn. PL scouts/managers do get it wrong on occasion but they all must see something that isn't obvious to the untrained eye and have stayed away. That and the price being requested make it an even less desirable deal.

Could also end up scoring a shedful of goals, all transfers are risks.

You would only get him for about £6-7m. Then you're talking about £40k a week wages over four years. So we're talking £15m+ for a third division striker that might be worse than Fonz and Weimann.

I'd rather we play a more sensible waiting game with the Fonz and Weimann and only bring in a striker when its absolutely necessary, rather than throwing money about for the sake of it.

I'd rather see Nick Rhodes playing for us than listen to his 'music' at half-time.

Good to see MON finally showing he can think outside of the obvious. It's not like Saha is old, injury prone or plays in England.

I wonder what Davey makes of it all and if what we were saying a while a go is beginning to ring true for him and that it wasn't just sour grapes from us?
