It would be nice to have a new left-back but too be honest its not as much of a priority as having a forward in first, and then a creative midfielder.
Au contraire, Squire. I think getting a decent LB is THE priority. Getting the defencec sorted out, after last season's horror-show, has to be #1 issue.

Have to agree with this, LB is the priority. We will be expecting the full backs be a key part of how we play, we need better than Warnock can provide.

We have enough cover to make sure left-back is not left as exposed as we were up-front when without Bent we clearly were not going to score enough. No, we need a forward first and foremost.

Nope, a left back is a much bigger priority. Could do with both though.

Get rid of Jean Makoun (40,000pw), Alan Hutton (30,000pw), Stephen Warnock (30,000pw). Bring in Aaron Cresswell (15,000), John Guidetti (20,000) Kyle Naughton (20,000) and Nathan Redmond (10,000). Don't crucify me on the last one.

Their wages might be lower but that's far too many unproven players at this level especially added to our signings so far.

And if Guidetti is for sale at around £10m as reported I think his wages will be closer to 40k than 20.

We need an established left back, centre mid and a striker.

This is pretty much the approach that Spurs have taken over the years, buying the likes of Bale, Carrick, Walker, Huddlestone, Dawson, Naughton, Reid.  They were young, not good enough at the time of purchase and arguably were not needed (eg signing 2 right backs on one day) but some matured into great players.

Reid shows that it is not always successful but I’d prefer to see villa trying this than just experienced players.

We can put a body in at left back, but unless it's Warnock or Stevens we're pretty much playing someone out of position.  Stevens is unproven and Warnock is proven to be crap, so I'd say LB is more urgent than striker, where we have Bent, Gabby back in a month, Weimann looking good and the tactical option of playing one up top.

I would say this is where we may have a quick win if Stoke do want to do business with Hutton and a couple of million of so for Jones. He is not perfect, but for where we are, needing a target man and not having wads of cash, the wages out and in would be fairly similar too, so may be worth doing squad wise. Lambert needs time and the odd stop gap might be beneficial, especially one Bent likes playing alongside.

Left back we need someone in ASAP. Bennett, Cresswell, whoever, just get someone in that can shore it up and give us something going forward too.

Not crazy about Jones at all.

But on the basis that:

(a)  Lambert likes to rotate
(b)  Jones can't expect to be a regular starter

and

((c) It means bye bye to Hutton

I'd gladly accept.

I'm not too worried at the moment. There is still 2 weeks of the window left. It is still going to be a long hard season but I'm still very positive that we are going to be far more organised and better to watch. We will probably still have the odd nightmare, but not every week. We'll be ok just maybe not contenders for the top 6 or 7 just quite yet.
I think we'll have a season of "the lads done well...we played some great football...but couldnt score" resulting in lots of draws, some depressing narrow defeats but enough results to keep us away from the relegation scrap. Considering the shambles of a squad PL inherited, he has worked some minor miracles already but you cant expect him to turn it around completely in one transfer window with an obviously limited budget. I doubt we'll see a "marquee" signing within the next few weeks, but if we can get a couple more decent players to strengthen the back four and our attacking options then we should be safely midtable come January.

According to the Star on Sunday, Stoke are willing to pay £3m for Richard Dunne, it's probably bollocks though.

Well Robert Huth could be out for a while might be something in it.

As is Dunne.
