If Jones for hutton and a few quid allowed us to go for milner or Johnson is would be happy enough.

£2m or something like plus Hutton for Jones would be very good business IMO.  I don't see Carroll as being a £15M something better player than Jones and as has already been said Jones would possibly be better suited to rotation than Carroll.

I've always been impressed with Marvin Sordell on the few times I've seen him.  Only 21/22 and seems to have been ignored at Bolton.  I wouldn't have thought he would cost too much in transfer fee or wages.

I've always thought if you get him motivated that Jones is a good player. Hutton plus a bit of money would be worth it purely to get rid of Hutton. But I think Jones is decent enough.

Jones reminds me of Carew, on his day he can be unplayable and highly dangerous, other times hardly worth playing.
If the rumour is true it could be a good signing
I think for those reasons it would be a dodgy signing.  We've had our fair share of mercurial performers and they aren't worth the trouble.  It's one thing being unpredictable if you're Stoichkov, or even Kinkladze, but Kenwyne Jones?  There must be better out there.

I'd be happy with Jones, as said a couple of million and Hutton for him would be good business.  If we can get him playing to his potential there's a very useful player there.  Even at 70-80% where he has spent most of his career, he'd be a good foil for Bent and give us more of a focal point.

If that means more money on a left back then I'm all for it as we need to get the right signing there as I think the full backs are going to be key players this season.

The only thing I would say is that Carew got away with a lot more than he probably should have because of MON and his lack of rotation. The strip club issue aside, where he had to do something because it was so public I imagine Carew could be quite difficult to deal with. Something I don't Lambert would stand. I don't think from what I know and have seen Jones is the same type of character. At a decent price he maybe motivated by playing with Bent again.

The other advantage with Jones over Carew is that he'd be the number 2 or 3 striker, whereas Carew was mainly first choice when he was fit.

I would'nt be disappointed with KJones tbh.Athletic, quick, good in the air, can hold the ball up, and on his day is a real handful.I think Pulis was the wrong kind of manager for him, and if we can include Hutton in the deal then i would be quite happy with this deal.

For me, i would'nt spend a lot of money on a foward while we still have Bent, a foil to Bent, who can also play with Gabby and Ireland would be the kind of player i would buy.Dzeko would have been perfect, but being realistic KJones is a good alternative.

If we have any money, then a good central defensive midfielder, a la Capoue, Sandro, would be my priority, with a good physical LB, a la Cissokho, or Taiwo would give us a well balanced team.

Jones always reminded me of a younger Heskey but as others have said there could be arguments made for it (his partnership with Bent, if the deal was a couple of mil+Hutton). Not sure whether he would suit a passing style though - always thought he was the old-fashioned style of striker that you hoofed the ball up to.

Lambert won't keep lazy uninterested players, like Carew was. That's why I'm certain we'll see a different N'Zogbia and Ireland this season.

Jones seems to be a confidence player to me,and he hasn't had any form for a good couple of years now,id stay well away from him, even for 2 million. Lambert has already shown that he can buy from abroad,so hopefully theres someone in Europe he's got his eye on.

Have to say, I agree.

Although if the only way we can get them to take that plank Hutton off them is to take Jones as part ex, then so be it.

Would Stoke want Hutton when they've just signed Cameron, a RB from the MLS? This Hutton to Stoke talk has been around for a while though, so you never know. So long as we don't pay silly money (or wages) for Jones, if true, then it wouldn't be the worst deal we could do.

The Jones story seems to be no more than the Gospel According to Twitter.
