Not interested in Jones, it's too much like a MON signing, buying him because he's available but will be no use to us in 12 months time. We're then stuck with a player on a 3/4 year contract that we can't shift.

Lambert so far seems to be bringing in players that will serve us well the length of their contracts and beyond. I'd therefore be surprised if he's interested, even if it includes the attraction of shifting Hutton.

I see Lukaku's agent has said he is close to joining a Premier League club and has ruled out Fulham. Based on nothing more than a gut feeling, I think it may well be us.

Potentially a good deal, although similar to Walker in many ways.  If he does well, he’ll stay at Chelsea and if he doesn’t then he’ll have been no help.

That makes far more sense, on loan, obviously.

I feel like I'm in the minority here but I would quite like Kenwyne in the squad. He pairs up incredibly well with Darren and in a possession oriented offense we could definitely use his size and heading ability.

He didn't pair up very well with Bent at Sunderland.

Darren Bent would appear to disagree with you:

"England international Bent leapt to praise the qualities of his former team-mate.

"I always found Kenwyne a joy to play with,” Bent told the Sunderland Echo.

"Even when it was said that he wasn't running, he wasn't doing this or that, he always had that presence where he might not do anything for 15 minutes, but then he would do something that would affect the game.

"He would knock a header down to me and I would be in, or he would score a goal himself.

"I always felt that he did well in most games. He was brilliant to play up front with and probably the best person I have played up front with in my career." "

Jones reminds me of Carew, on his day he can be unplayable and highly dangerous, other times hardly worth playing.
If the rumour is true it could be a good signing

Carew was an infinitely better player than Jones.

You don't play for the likes of Valencia, Roma, Lyon and -dare I say-  Aston Villa if you are a complete mug.  Compare and contrast with Jones, who has been a bit part player for those giants of the game Southampton, Slumberland and Throw In FC.

Sunderland played pretty rudimentary football when Jones and Bent were their front two. Weren't the most difficult side to plan how to play against.

I really like Jones. I always thought he was a decent forward. I'd be happy to sign him.

What's this about the Italian centre back? Any more information on that? Seems an odd link.

I would be more than chuffed if this was a case, I really rate him and he's an absolute tank. Exactly what we've been missing up front recently.

Re; Stoke. We wouldn't swap N'Zog for Etherington then?

Lukaku is a strange one, and I would hope we would push for it to be a 1 year loan with the option of a second for example. 12 months would not be enough to get the best from him I would fear. He would only just be adapting and the loan would finish.

No to Etherington from me as well.  The one player I would consider from Stoke is Ryan Shawcross.  I know he has got the reputation of being a bit of a thug, but he came through the ranks at Manchester United and I think at a different club he would be a different player.

Shawcross is a good defender, and would be a good signing for Villa but would cost the earth I reckon.
