The problem wasn't providing funds though. The problem was with having a manager that had no scouting network and insisted on buying ageing Premier League players on excessive wages. On top of that, he would play the same team every week and let the rest of the squad rot. With what appears to be good value signings from abroad/lower league who will be on less wages, I would imagine Lambert is fast gaining Lerner's trust. Maybe in another years time when we've got rid of the last O'Neill players and the wage bill is back at a healthy level, those kind of funds can be made available again - but with the experience of knowing not what to do this time around.

Isn't it early days to judge Lambert's signings, though? They haven't played a competitive game yet. In fact, haven't we only signed two players thus far?

On a wider point, lots of people seem to think him selling the Browns means more time spent with, and more money spent on, Villa. If he's selling them to spend more time with his son in NYC, why does that make him more likely to spend time over here - if Cleveland is too far, then Brum surely is, too.

Let's see what happens.

Yeah, from what I hear, his son is finished school in Cleveland and Randy will pretty much sever ties with the place being based in New York and, more regularly, over here.

I'd heard more than one whisper about renewed investment and I had thought it was outside investment in Villa rather than selling the Browns but its all good.
He's getting dogs abuse over there even worse than some of the idiots here and he'll never measure up to his dad in their eyes so its probably for the best to put all his eggs in one basket.
I dont think this means extravagant investment immediately but we can expect to worry about finances less (the wages issue will not change, nor should it) and maybe we can aim a bit higher on a few targets.

You're not now trying to claim that your whispers about selling to Arabs was now Lerner selling the Browns are you?  The two things are clearly entirely different.

Errr... no. Are you trying to claim I haven't been saying for some time now that Randy was planning some sort of refinancing?
I didn't know from where or exactly how as Ive already said, the Arab rumours came from elsewhere but were interesting. I still wouldnt rule that out in the future.

We need an organiser at the back, a can opener and a playmaker in midfield and a Dr Seuss fox in the box up front.

anybody else heard the rumour that we want danny rose on loan? I wouldn't want loan players  in general unless there is a buy clause in our favour at a set price. Rose's uncle is mark rankine who played for wolves

I wouldn't want Danny Rose in general. I'd rather Lambert himself decided to have a run about.

Damn right.  Seems to get picked regularly at youth international level but I can't say I've seen anything about him.

Stuart Pearce seems to adore him based on the great goal he scored against Arsenal a couple of years ago.

He's done nothing else other than try to cripple Alan Hutton last year and get himself sent off against us. So I suppose he's not all bad.

James nursery said its worth $100million

Where has $1billion come from?
Might be wrong, but isn't the American Billion 100,000,000 where as an English Billion is 1,000,000,000?

No, it used to be that the English billion was a million millions, but the American thousand millions is now universally accepted.

Selling one asset doesn't mean he's planning anything different for Aston Villa.

Does he want Danny Rose to play left back, think that is his main position rather than left midfield where Pearce is playing him? Got to say I dont think he is all that, was actually taking the p about him to Spud mate while watching the game the other night
