I think that coming in Lambert had a good idea what he needed in the defensive department, which I include KEA in as a DCM, so I think Concrete Ron and Cresswell, or similar, will finish that part off.  What he was probably less sure of was what he had in the forward area, given the uncertainty of who wasn't good enough and who was simply suffering from the shackles of TSM.  So I think we may see a signing or two after the LB and CB are sorted, which will be driven by what he has seen in pre-season.

I agree, failing to perform as a defender in a system setup to be solid defensively is noticable so he came in expecting to have to work on the defensive side of things.  Up front it's difficult to be sure about anyone other than Bent really (Bent gets an exception because he actually had a decent goals to games rate last year which suggests if you play him he'll score, regardless of what else is going on).

I like the approach we seem to be taking in the transfer market were by we mix young players from the lower leagues with cheap technically gifted players from the continent.

I must admit to a wry smile when I read all this stuff about PL signing players from the continent. He seems only to have dealt so far with the Dutch League. When he was at Norwich, this was the essentially the next County to the east, and closer than Manchester. Even MON went as far as Scotland.

Considering Brett Holman was also signed from the Dutch League that could be the place where Villa's scouts have decided be "at".  I suppose there's worse places.

So Chris Hutchings (assistant manager at Ipswich) Phoned Lambert on Tuesday asking about the availibility of a player that used to play under Paul Jewell at a previous club...

Who?..

Maybe Lambert rates Andy Marshall? ;-)

I saw him interviewed (Marshall) on avtv the other day, and it occurred to me that I'd never have recognised him prior to that.

His hair is longer than I remembered. He was always down as a decent prospect a decade or so ago. Yet the 'third choice 'keeper' tag has been his fate.

Work permit problems the reason for Brad going on loan.

Seems very strange (if true).

Chivas USA: Brad Guzan Signs Six-Month Loan Deal from Aston Villa

This move (if true) makes no sense to me

You know how it is, you go on holiday, leave something behind by mistake...

Just tell him to come back in the country via France on the back of an Artic lorry - will be fine - FFS what a farce this country is

Couldn't we have left Warnock instead?

We left the house open with Hutton in the doorway and note saying 'please take me' but no one fell for it... :(

Who?..

i think the quote means they were asking Lambo about a player he used to manage before he came to Villa.

We should have left Hutton at the end of the drive, the tatters would have had him.
