Blimey I was worried for a minute that one of the conditions involving Carroll joining Villa would be that Downing had to come back as well.

Haha - I thought that too and panicked

I think we're better off cutting ties with Warnock.

Yep. The way I see it, when you get to the stage that an experienced left-back can no longer be trusted to play at left back, and we're thinking of ways to shoe-horn him into a midfield role because he does less damage there, that's probably a big clue about his future.

I don't really know what happened to Warnock. Started so well, form dropped off, had that problem with Houllier, just about a regular last season but made some almighty clangers. All in all, almost certainly was overrated during his time at Blackburn, who saw us coming the day we offered £7m for him.

Read a blog from a Sunderland fan today who was asking why MON is intent on getting more defenders in when they've got a couple of promising youngsters coming through.  Sound familiar?

Judging by their activity in January I thought they'd restrict him. Do that and you've got a very, very good manager on your hands.

However, they've a load of defenders already. Why are they letting him sign more before he's shifted some? It's the same old cycle again.

He was fine until MON rushed him back for a game, was it the Carling Cup Final?... since then he just went shit.

He gave a stupid peanlty away at the Eastlands when we were one up and dominating the game.

Carew hit the bar a minute later. If we'd have gone 2-0 up, then we'd have pipped Spurs tot the Champions League spot in my view.

Damn your eyes Warnock.

I think you are nearly right. The way I remember it they equalised first, then Carew hit the bar, then they went 2-1 up with the penalty.

From my memory though, so might be me thats wrong

The penalty was the equaliser followed by Carew hitting the bar, then they went 2-1 up when Downing stood off the pitch watching.

I remember it as Warnock making a needless pass to the opposition then trying to correct things by giving away a pen to make it 2-1.

Even so, he was showing signs of his complete shitness way before the Man City game.

Now..... if Collins joined Stoke, their midfielders might as well set up deckchairs in the centre circle. The ball would never be anywhere near them.

Of course, putting an international winger like Downing together with an international centre-forward like Caroll could be a move that produces a load of goals............ oh wait !!  ;)

They'll probably show Spain a thing or two about revolutionising football formations and adopt the 5-0-5 formation.
