Just a thought but if PL is considering a big man option up front as he suggested with his comments about Carroll, AVB seems to want Hulk instead of Adebayor and Adebayor says he wants to stay in the PL (Paul Lambert and the Premier League - too many PL's). Adebayor to Villa? The papers reckon City wanted six million from Spurs but have had an eight million bid from a Russian club so would six million do it if he digs his heels in to stay in this country and do we want him?

Went to Spurs like a week ago.  ;)

I did think of Adebayor the other day and that we should try hijack the Spurs deal as £6m - £8m seems a great price for a 28yr old striker who, in the right team and position, is a consistent goal scorer and last season in 33 EPL games he got 17 goals and 11 assists, that's a contribution to 28 goals in 33 games - for a player rated around £6m - £8m - doesn't take a genius to do the maths and in comparison to Carroll 1/3rd of the price for 2 times the player.

My understanding was that an announcement was made in the media to that effect last Friday but since then both clubs and the player/his agent have confirmed it hasn't been signed off by all parties and Lokomotiv Moscow have since made a higher bid.

There's chatter about Collins to Martin O'Neills Sunderland. Thinking about it, I'd rather we kept Collins and let Dunne go. Ability-wise, I can't see that there is much between them and Collins is three years younger. Last season Dunne was a liability, and he carried his form into the Euro's. If Ronnie Concrete comes to us I would rather him and Collins to be partnered together, than a lumbering out of form Dunne. MON is going to partner himself and Cuellar/Turner together in his Sunderland, not a bad center-back paring.

Have you not looked at the Ron Vlaar/Concrete Ron thread? If the man himself is keeping an eye on this thread then you had better hope he doesn't mind being called Ronnie Concrete!

Collins was a bigger liability than Dunne last season. Dunne gave away more pens, but Collins consistently gave away countless free-kicks outside our box. He gets drawn to the ball far too much, leaving us open at the back. He's more trouble too. Dunne may well be a lumbering mess but he's Mr Mobility compared to Collins.

That said, I want Dunne out too. If however he gets himself fit and sheds a stone or two of pie weight, he could be useful.
For me though, Concrete Ron and Clark will be the way forward.

I don't think Dunne is going anywhere. Lambert has already spoken well of him and had him sat next to him for the press conference yesterday. Even took a little funny dig at him about having to shed some weight! Dunne has a lot of experience and despite him being a liability at times also has proved to be excellent in games. You can't completely strip the club of senior players and leadership and Dunne does provide that. I don't expect him to be here beyond this contract. Collins is under 28, and still has some resale value. Also, despite how you might perceive he seems to find himself in trouble more than he should. He won't be a loss in my opinion.

Shit....I meant Concrete Ron....I don't know what I was thinking.....I was young and impetuous, my mind was elsewhere. May the lord have mercy on us all...

We can do better than both. Dunne is on a free next year, has the ability to be an asset, is on such big wages we'd probably have to subsidise them and could potentially upset Ireland and Given should be fobbed off - so I'd keep him.

Collins we should get a decent fee for and his (reported) wages are more realistic so should be easier to shift.

I want rid of both but there's more sense in keeping Dunne, IMO.

I reckon Warnock will stay too.

I think we will keep one of Dunne and Collins . I can see it being Dunne.

Blimey I was worried for a minute that one of the conditions involving Carroll joining Villa would be that Downing had to come back as well.

Read a blog from a Sunderland fan today who was asking why MON is intent on getting more defenders in when they've got a couple of promising youngsters coming through.  Sound familiar?

It's an all-lower case why right now, but give it time and it will turn to WHY.

I could cope with Dunne staying as long as Warnock, Hutton and Collins go, especially after losing Petrov, Jenas, Heskey and Cuellar from last seasons squad, we can't really lose much more experience as well.
