I think swapping Warnock and Delph roles might actually benefit if someone could properly coach the technique of left backing into Delph to reduce his injury and discipline problems.

Totally agree, Warnock reminds me a little of where Gareth Barry was in his career, lack of pace was finding him out, so a midfield move suited his game more.  I think the same about Stephen Warnock.  He's combative and I think he could do a decent job for us in there.

It's not like we don't need someone to put a bit of steel into the middle of the Park, especially with Stan gone. We get bossed around too easily.

Warnock wouldnt lace Gareth Barry's boots.

He is probably the worst senior player left at the club now Heskey is gone. Let him go on a free. He is terrible. Id be shocked if there was another Premier League club stupid enough to buy him. Mid table championship player Im afraid.

Use him to get Snodgrass, Whittingham or some decent championship player in.

Bit of Steel?  He spends a few minutes in every game on the ground getting treatment.

I'm not saying he's a better player than Gaz Baz, just that he could benefit from a move inside like barry did.

I think he's better than mid table Championship too.

I think we're better off cutting ties with Warnock. I'd much rather see a new left back in and Delph in midfield rather than Warnock where he can use his passing and tenacity. He just needs some technical coaching on challenging for the ball and a break from injuries. We have Herd, El Ahmadi, Gardner, Delph, Makoun? Lowton etc as the ball winners/distibutors and plenty of options in attacking midfield (Carruthers, Ireland, Bannan, Johnson, Holman, N'Zogbia etc).

I'd like one more powerful midfielder in there but I dont see the point in keeping Warnock around as a midfielder.
The way I see it, you have a ball winner screening the defence, a box to box engine man linking play (defence and attack) and a playmaker supporting the attack. Sometimes these roles will overlap. Players need to understand and be able to do part of eachothers jobs.

Gardner will thrive in a more possession based style of play. I'm expecting him to really start showing his potential this season. I'm expecting Dan Johnson and Carruthers to start making a name for themselves too.
But I still think one more Vieira type would do nicely.

Is Warnock in the last year of his contract? I wouldn't be against keeping him for one more year as a back up left back and a left sided midfield option. He impressed me with the way he never hid even when having a mare last season. As for Hutton, it's not even worth a debate. It seems he is the one player Lambert had written off before he even took over. Plays him in one friendly to show he has recovered from last season's injury then bins him from the tour. We all saw how shocking he was last season and I'm guessing Lambert has seen things going back further with Rangers and Scotland to know he doesn't fancy him. Not even a royal pardon from Prince William of Villa can save him now.

We have a midfield Governor.

I understand the argument about keeping Warnock and using him in midfield, but with a year left on his contract, if we move him on (and someone will buy him, probably MON), we get him off the wage bill (assume he's a high earner) and get some money for him.

It has to be balanced against that, so I really don't see the point keeping him.

If I had a straight choice I'd sell him, as Paulie suggests, but if that doesn't happen I can see how he'd fit in.

We already have Stevens as cover, so for him to go we'd need a new LB to come in and a deal for Warnock that made financial sense in terms of the fee we get and how much the new club would pay him, which would effect the pay off we'd be needing to reach.

I would let Warnock go for nothing now.

30 year old recent England international with no injury problems and a wealth of PL experience.  Even with one year left we'll get something for him and would be foolish to let him go for free.

Just a thought but if PL is considering a big man option up front as he suggested with his comments about Carroll, AVB seems to want Hulk instead of Adebayor and Adebayor says he wants to stay in the PL (Paul Lambert and the Premier League - too many PL's). Adebayor to Villa? The papers reckon City wanted six million from Spurs but have had an eight million bid from a Russian club so would six million do it if he digs his heels in to stay in this country and do we want him?

There's chatter about Collins to Martin O'Neills Sunderland. Thinking about it, I'd rather we kept Collins and let Dunne go. Ability-wise, I can't see that there is much between them and Collins is three years younger. Last season Dunne was a liability, and he carried his form into the Euro's. If Ronnie Concrete comes to us I would rather him and Collins to be partnered together, than a lumbering out of form Dunne. MON is going to partner himself and Cuellar/Turner together in his Sunderland, not a bad center-back paring.
