All we need to do is find another quality player from French League and use Makoun plus cash to get him.

Hutton was at Star City's Goals yesterday. Joining Inter Menan maybe?

"Jean Makoun's Aston Villa career is in jeopardy - because he has not learned to speak English."

If that is a requirement to play for Villa, looks like we are down to a squad of one. And he is off sick.

Guardian now reporting that "Paul Lambert has also confirmed his desire to secure Carroll".  Don't know where he confirmed that, or what he wants to secure him with...

After the Burton Albion game Lambert was quoted as saying "If we could get him it would be great. He's a top player" or something like that. So I reckon that's pretty explicit.

Going after Luuk de Jong and possibly Carroll it seems there is a desire there to get a fairly significant forward in.
I reckon Lambert considers Bent as his main forward and anything else is open. Weimann (particularly) and Delfouneso will get some chances, I'm not sure what he thinks of Gabby but I get the impression a partner or serious competition for Bent is a priority for him.

There was a suggestion on ssn last night that Carroll wants to go on loan, whereas Liverpool want to sell him

Maybe Carroll thinks Rodgers won't last a year and he might get another shot at reviving his Kop career next year, or am I being cynical?

IIRC, Carroll didn't want to leave Newcastle this time last year so I'll take whatever he says this year with a large pinch of salt

I find it pretty staggering that if the media reports are accurate, they're willing to stomach a circa 20m loss on Carroll after just 12 months.

His form plummeted mainly due to his service drying up. No decent crosses meant Carroll struggled to score. Now he is available on the cheap ready to be picked up.

Well done agent Downing. Your mission is complete.

Some interesting links at the moment.

Simpson
Carroll
Owen's agent apparently spotted at VP
Snodgrass
Vlaar
Doumbia in a swap for Jean Deux

Would be very interesting if we ended up with 8 new signings. Shake up would not be the word! Although we have said we need it for a while, it would be very exciting.

This morning's quotes from Vlaar saying Villa is a 'dream move' sound very similar to El Ahmadi's just before he joined.

Agree, if you get Owen, you are just paying for the upkeep of his horses. The lad's head doesn't seem to be in football anymore.
