no clubs sign players that are always going to be number one. It just doesn't work that way. Better clubs just have more role players that would be number one elsewhere.

It has to be a mixture of key players, role players and potential. The question is is about the drop off between those key players and role players. the less the drop off the better it is as long as the key players are performing well and as they are capable.

Personally, I don't cut Gabby any slack because of where he's come from, but I do give him some benefit of the doubt for the last two seasons as he's had injuries, been played wide, had poor managers and the whole club has been in turmoil on and off the pitch.  The three years prior to that he hit double figures and was improving year on year.  I hope and think those issues are now behind us, so we does need to get back to the player he was under MON from now on.
lol john, you dont cut him any slack, there are more excuses there than any i have heard from anyone ablout a player straightout of the book of cutting someone slack!
i think he needs to buck his ideas up though big time. I am a fan of his but 2 years of very poor play cannot be accepted for a third with a third different manager.

I didn't say I didn't cut him any slack, I said I didn't do so due to him being a local lad/Villa fan.

They are excuses if he is again poor next season, but if he recaptures his form they are reasons.  If he proves he can't then I'll have no issues with Bertie showing him the door.

Yes John, Rutski's right. Please don't disagree with him again when he kindly tells you what you think.

I feel lots better now he's explained exactly why it is I like Gabby.

Thanks Rutski.

Bit disappointed to see Mariappa go to Reading. Good player.

SSN saying Whelan is in Mallorca having talks with Ivan Ramos over a £2m move.

I completely agree with this. Gabby was knocking n the door for England not so long ago. Also the main reason he is put on the right is because he works damn hard for us.

I didn't say you told him how to think. I said you told him what he thinks. But it's not just you Rutski. Barely a day goes by when somebody or other doesn't tell me that I wouldn't rate Gabby as highly as I do if he wasn't a Villa fan.

Which is absolute bollocks BTW, as I couldn't give a shiny shite who he supports, and I'm not totally convinced he's a lifelong Holte Ender anyway. Not that I hold that against him, like I said, I don't care.

I think fetcher is a very non glamorous decent shout. We don't have an archetypal centre forward, good in the air etc. I'd like someone more exciting bit the benefit of a fletcher is that you can bring him in and out of the team with little fuss.

The problem with Fletcher is he suffers from bad feet. Is he a practising homosexual? What, with those feet? Who'd have him?

Bit underwhelmed with our signings so far bearing in mind how our squad needs major surgery. Also concerned none of the deadwood has been sold off yet.

The squad has only been back a week and some players are yet to return for training...PL will need a few weeks to identify the strengths and weaknesses of the current players at his disposal so not concerned in the slightest.

Please read slowly, like you think.

Firstly, I said you had told John what he thinks.

You said 'when did I tell him how to think?'

I said 'I didn't say you told him how to think, I said you told him what he thinks'.

Clear enough so far?

You are one of many who tell those who think Gabby is a good player, that we only think that because he's a Villa fan (hence telling us what we think).

I pointed out that this is bollocks, because I rate players on what I think of them as players, and I couldn"t care less who they support.

I also pointed out that I'm not convinced that Gabby is a passionate Villa fan to the extent of say, Gary Shaw.

What bit don't you understand? Be specific and maybe I can break it down some more.

BTW, 'you don't make sense' isn't a question, so it shouldn't have a question mark after it.

Yeah I know what you mean, what is Lambert waiting for, he should get out there and spend his £300m transfer budget to buy us a new squad and of sold all the players he doesn't want, after all he's had most of them back for a whole 8 days now, he has had more than enough time to work out who deserves to stay and who needs to go...

Let's be realistic, he has very limited funds and has had very little time to work with the squad so far and hasn't even overseen them play a game yet, give the guy a chance and not expect him to bring in a dozen £10m - £15m players that we don't have the money for and sold half our squad within a week.
