I think Owen will end up at Southampton or Reading.

Fletcher would be a good signing. I'd imagine MON will spend £15m on him at Sunderland, on £80k a week for 6 years.

owen would only be worth considering on a pay-as-you-play deal.

I don't think that sort of deal is worth considering.

If we bring him in hoping he will get to play some games for us it stops us bringing in a player who could play a lot more games for us, plus if we have injuries and we need to rely on Owen to cover them but he isn't fit then we will be left short.

It's better to bring in someone we know can play rather than someone at the end of their career who might never play for us. We need to build a team for the future and Owen might not even be a player for now, never mind the next few seasons.

But might Fletcher be one of those players who is prepared to come to us and not be a first choice, thereby given us that different option in a striker to Gabby and Bent?

Personally I think he'll prove too expensive for that, but would be keeping an eye on Jordan Rhodes to see if his valuation gets anymore realistic.

If we are looking at bringing a striker in from a lower league club, surely it would make sense to offer Delfouneso as part of the deal.  The Fonz must be worth £2m - £3m in the current market and that would considerably reduce any potential outlay.

Michael Owen will end up at Stoke or somewhere close enough to enjoy his horse racing interests. He's absolutely minted, doesn't need football for money, and really doesn't even need to play anymore. A motivated Michael Owen would still be a Man U player. The version everyone else would get is the one that is doing it part time.

Would Carroll be a marquee signing?  I'd take him on loan certainly, BBC now reporting he will be available on loan as Liverpool are signing Borini.

Yup. Was going to say the same.

Proximity to his stables is going to be a big deciding factor in where he goes.

I think we're going to struggle to get value for a £10m+ striker, i.e. Sturridge or Carroll.

Lambert comes with momentum but I don't think it's enough to get players from the top 6 clubs (I wouldn't include Newcastle but would include Liverpool in that). If we have a decent season or two we will be in a stronger position but I don't see those types coming here (unless it's a loan later on in the window).

I think we're currently in the bracket of Newcastle, Everton, Fulham and Sunderland in terms of attraction. We know that we've got just as much potential as Newcastle (and should we get it right we've got a chairman that is capable of pushing us on even further), but I think we'll have a tough time convincing those types of players to come here.

Really don't want to spend big for the sake of it and end up with Fletcher (who I rate, but not at £10m). Let O'Neill or Pulis do that.

I wouldn't throw dog sick at Owen now.
Way, way past his best but would still expect mega wages.
He should stick to being the 21st century Mick Channon.

he's mates with Crouch too so I can see the Stoke thing happening. It will be pay as you play or a deal somewhat resembling that. He'll score the odd goal, probably while live on Sky and people will fall over themselves as to why their club didn't get him. Then at the end of the season you'll realise that he only played in 15 or so games, 7 or 8 as a sub and scored three times.
