Surprised we've not been linked to Mariappa at Watford yet

Central midfield is still a dubious area for me, EL Ahmadi is an unknown quantity and whilst Herd impressed last season I feel he's limited in comparison with centre mids at other teams in the top half.

Would agree with that Pedro.  With Stan not being available, I stil think we could do with player in midfield who could give us a bit of experience and leadership.  Going back a few years, we could do with a signing like Andy Townsend, who at that time was an experienced international and just slotted straight into the side.  Saying that, I really can't think of too many current Premier League players in our price range who would fit that bill.

With the player turnover that's been hinted at I think we're going to see a lot areas of the side with question marks.  For instance, most of us want Clark playing alongside a new CB, who may very well be new to the PL.  So would that be anymore 'dubious' than a starting central midfield of say Herd and El Ahmadi?

Anyone know if makoun is part of the plans and back training?

Makoun is back on Thursday (tomorrow) after having some personal/family issues. Hopefully he can fit in Lamberts plans. Ireland, Herd, Karim and Makoun could make a decent central midfield.

So as of today the squad is: (Based on players who have had at least 1 full game)

GK's

Given
Guzan
Marshall

Defenders

Warnock
Hutton
Collins
Dunne
Clark
Stevens
Lowton
Baker

Midfielders

Albrighton
El Ahmadi
N'Zogbia
Herd
Ireland
Makoun
Gardener
Bannan
Holman

Strikers

Gabby
Bent
Fonz
Weinmann

Another CB and maybe striker of note and i think we could be good to go - there are some decent footballers in that squad and with a manager who lets them play football could bring the best out of them

You can add Lichaj to the defenders and Delph to the midfielders.

The main area for concern in that squad list is clearly the defence. The positive is that we know PL is looking to bring in players and get rid of the liabilities.

On paper midfield is looking ok but a few injuries and we are looking very lightweight/inexperienced. I'd like to see an experienced proven dominant midfielder brought in to keep things together.

I'd also sell/loan the Fonz if we can bring in another forward.

Question is though, how many of our defense does Lambert see as liabilities.

I think we'll find that out by who he buys and sells.  Getting another RB in as he has doesn't bode well for Hutton!
