Maybe Gabby will surprise us, if not he'll be out, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt for now

Gabby has never had the touch or ball control to link play. To be frank as much as we love him he is finished as a top league performer. About 3 years ago he developed lot of muscle that stood him good for a season or two but now he is losing pace and that was his biggest asset. Defenders have worked him out and thats not too difficult. He can not fit into our team with Bent. We must play for Bent next season. I doubt it if he can transform into a more subtle intelligent forward like Dublin or Withe do I repeat if we can get some money go for it now.

Why do people feel the need to reach such black and white conclusions? Players are always either 'not good enough' or 'brilliant'.

Up to November / December last year, the concept that Gabby was finished would have been absurd. He seemed resurgent. He'd got something like 7 goals and 7 assists in 15-20 games. Including some of the best goals I've ever seen him score. His performance in the Chelsea away game was excellent.

Ever since then, he was pretty damn bad. And I personally hope he's not starting at the beginning of the season because I hope we have better / more in form options.

But to say he's finished is over the top in my view.

It's up to Lambert who does stay or go but I don't think he would let a player go who has proved only a couple of seasons a go that he can get 16 goals after a steady increase of goals over the previous seasons.

He has the potential, with the right coaching and motivation from Lambert and his team and by playing him to his strengths rather than experimenting with him and playing him out of position, to get more goals.

I do believe Lambert won't sell him and that this time next year Gabby will be preparing for a new season, after just scoring 15 goals, targeting 20 goals - I may end up eating my words but selling him now for £5m isn't good business or sense and could come back to haunt us, imagine if Gabby scores and knocks us out of a cup, costs us final league position or even cost us a European spot over the next few seasons, how gutted would we be that he was sold for £5m as any of the above scenarios would cost us a lot more than £5m in lost revenue.

I agree that Gabby was great up until around November/December. Then he got himself injured (hamstring, back? I can't remember)
I think he came back too soon, never fully recovering, as we had problems.

Bit harsh to use his form this season as justification for selling him. We've got a player who's best asset is pace, and only truly effective when playing in a team with an attacking mentality, playing in a team managed by Alex McLeish.

On the OS it has the Sheffield Star saying Sheff Utd in negotiations over a loan for a premier league striker - Delfouneso as part of the deal for Lowton?

Wouldn't suprise me at all.

In fact, this would please me greatly, he needs to go on loan somewhere where he'll be in the starting XI every week.

Phil: no-one in particular, just want something to read.

Thanks BTW.

I know, any links today?

PL has apparently put a bid in to Chelsea for Ryan Bertrand which has been rejected

Time to up the bid for Bertrand. Part of it in cash now and put the rest of the cost on plastic

I don't think an increased bid will get accepted if what is reported is correct that DiMatteo wants him to have a new and improved contract even though he only signed 4 year deal last summer, plus they can offer a higher level of play than us, he has already played in a winning team in a Champions League final.
He could of been a good player to have but don't think they are interested in selling him.

Yep, he was poor last season - but we were shit all over the place thanks to TSM. I'm sure Lambo will get the best out of him.

Not only is Gabby capable of being a great player, he's also our talisman and I've love to see him spend his entire career with us.

My opinion re: Gabby. He will either thrive under Lambert or he won't survive. There won't be anything in between.
Hopefully it won't be the latter. Because if Lambert can strip away all the gobshite elements of Gabby and make him concentrate on everything that should make him absolutely lethal, we'll have one of the most dangerous players in the league.
