How much is Kyle Naughton realistically worth if £6m is too much?

Much has been said about the problems of the English team...there are many reasons why the national side struggles at the top level but a part of that is due to the unrealistic prices placed on English players therefore making managers seek cheaper but equally as good alternatives from abroad bringing more foreign players into the domestic game.

That's pretty much how I see it, we've got young English players with agents demanding high wages and high transfers before they've even achieved anything. and the sad thing is that there will always be a team willing to pay over the odds.

I thought kyle Naughton would be a decent signing but not at £6M

On the basis the utter garbage that the English national team served up (not for the first time), over inflated prices of English players (why on earth?) and the inability of the vast majority (98%+) of English players to have any technical ability then I'd prefer that any money we do have in the transfer market goes on foreigners.   Someone once said you don't win anything with kids.  I'd go one further and say you wont win anything with English/British players.  Naughton at £6m? What a f**king joke. I'd take 3 deals of the likes of this Feynoord player any day for the same outlay.  At least then I'd see a few passes strung together next season.

Naughton and Walker are two examples of how spurs use the loan system better than us.  We have loads of youngsters who *might* be great but they are not getting enough game time.  Spurs send their young players on loan and as a result can ask stupid money for them as they have demonstrated a degree of form.

The only time we have used the loan system well was with Cahill at burnley.  In many ways it was his form there (rather than at Villa) which allowed us to get 5m for him.

Naughton and Walker cost Spurs 8 million combined, 3 years ago.  To date they have had one very good seasonout of Wlker and that's it, debatable whether they have had their monies worth, albeit they probably will over coming years.

5 million for Cahill seemed ok at the time, shame he's probably worth 3 times that now.

The problem has been that no Premier League clubs seem interested in taking our younger players on loan.  Yes they get some game time playing for clubs in the lower leagues, but we don't really learn about their capabilities to play at the top level that way.  Both Walker and Naughton were loaned to Premier League clubs, and proved themselves in the league.

Walker went on loan to then Championship side QPR for the first half of the season before we got him for the second half of the season. So if we were to loan the likes of Gardner out to a decent championship side who play the right way, for the first half of the season, there's the chance of a Premier League be interested in taking them on loan for the second half of the season.

They got over 1.5 million back on Walkers loands, and no doubt have got close to a million I would imagine from Norwich and Leicester for the loans of Naughton. Coupled with Walker now being worth easily 15 million I would think if he were to be available, I think Spurs will think they have decent value.

As it is I like Naughton alot, and think if we could agree at 4 million he would be a good signing. But Clyne would be just as good, cheaper, and possibly better in the long term, but we would face stiff competition, from United I believe, fro Clyne.

I know Man United have been linked with Clyne in the past but if they bought everyone they were linked with they would have a squad of about 700.

I doubt Nursey would know what price Spurs are asking for and when you're negotiating, you will always start with an inflated value. That said there's a kid at Crystal Palace who could be a better signing than Naughton who would probably be easier to sign and could be cheaper.

Clyne, yes.

No I think he means Wilfried Zaha

I did mean Nathaniel Clyne - he's been around a while now and has quite a bit of experience and he could potentially become a challenger to Walker for the England right back spot in time.

Zaha has potential but looks raw. If that were the criteria, I would prefer Tom Ince.

some very good points there, greedy english clubs ripping each other off. the whole system then struggles to maintain its worth.

I saw Clyne play last year and he's certainly in the mould of the athletic full back who likes to get forward at every opportunity.  My only concern about him would be his size, as he is certainly not the tallest.  Also don't know whether he would be ready for a first team spot straight away, whereas I think Naughton would be.

I am sure we can find a good left back in Europe or South America for peanuts compared to overrated Premier League/English players.

Either way £6m is a piss take

exactly , whats the point in keeping a player that is not going to play anyway , only in the stones bitter cup or something.

I saw Clyne get ripped apart by Blooose last year, not sure he's that good, or Naughton tbh.

That Czech lad Selaisse is the kind of player we should be going for.
