So long as its Premier League quality players playing for Championship clubs rather than the other way round, I see no problem with that.

Well put. I see no reason why we should limit ourselves to any arbitrary transfer market parameters. We have to exhaust every single option looking for the right players.

There is, believe it or not, a scouting set up of sorts in place now and their recommendations may interest Lambert.

I would love our new manager to bring in Ricky Lambert from Southampton.

I agree.

I watched him many times when he was at Rovers and advocated signing him a few years ago. He was a class above that league and has also proved himself to be amongst the best in the Championship. However, I suspect that he'll now want to stay with Southampton in the Premier League

You mean that the board and manager don't do their research by checking this thread ?

Obviously this should be their first port of call.

Why did they never sign Jermaine Beckford then?

Why did they never sign Jermaine Beckford then?

Because the main culprit for his recommendation is retarded.

Currently stinking up VillaTalk with haikus of unfathomable bollocks.

Interesting he has already given a list of players he wants to Faulkner and Lerner and they are setting about getting them in. Still think there will be 3 or 4 championship players in there.

I missed that. Direct quotes?

He said about 3/4 of the way through that he had targets in mind and had discussed them with Paul and the chairman.

Is anyone a little concerned with him identifying players before he assess our squad up close?

OK, if they've said to him the left back is going he can say who he'd like to get in for that position, but I'd prefer him to fully understand our strengths and weaknesses before spending the club's money!

Sounds a bit odd at first, but I'd guess that he's been watching DVDs of some of our games in the past week, maybe even discussed players with the coaching staff...

Plus, we played Norwich last day of the season. Lambert will have done his homework on us in the build-up to that match - and then watched us and probably thought, 'what a shower of shite'...

He's probably witnessed our problems throughout the season, although it is a bit strange.
