isn't it inevitable that MON will get linked to any player of ours that did well under him and then place a complete bollocks valuation on him? I don't think Gabby is going anywhere and he'll have been hurt by how we've done in the past 2 years as much as anyone. Add to that his injuries that for a sprinter haven't helped at all, he'll be looking for a fresh start under Lambert. The mood at the club and around the club must be superb and the players will be revitalised by it as much as the fans are. Still need to shed some crap, but we shouldn't discount what a new manager and outlook can do for even those players that have looked lost the last little while.

Had to smile when I read the Beeb gossip column this morning....

"Sunderland want to sign Republic of Ireland winger Aiden McGeady, 26, who is halfway through a four-year deal at Spartak Moscow. "
That would be interesting.
He was my prefered choice ahead of CN'Z.

Irony?

IRONICALLY the 1 player we desperately need to buy this summer is a Lambert type player in midfield.

Absolutely, totally correct.  Priority signing for me.  Even if we have no more money to spend and had to stick with the same back four of Hutton, Collins, Dunne and Warnock.  They need some protection in front of them.

so let me get this right,
your saying after watching that dross all of last season, that our the prority signing now is to get someone in to make us even more defensive ?

I'm saying after watching that dross last season I'd get rid of every single 1 of them but since that isnt viable getting a new LB, CB and DM would be a priority. To be honest even if we were broke, just getting this team to play football and giving them the confidence to play would get us mid-table.

Don't foirget we have Heskey, Guzan and Carlos' wages to play with too.

That's, what , £125k a week ?

With some creative signings we could just be in a great place this Xmas.

You get one midfielder to do the majority of the defensive work then it frees up the rest of the midfield to get forward and support Bent.

Wrong topic, but how is St Ledger doing at Leicester?

I don't want any more shite Ireland players playing for us! Dunne after his first decent season with us has been an over-all negative influence, as I suspected he'd be. Given while a decent keeper is only going to go downhill from here and the rest of the ROI players are barely above Championship level, albeit managed by one of the all time greats. We already have the two best Ireland players and to be frank they're not even that great, so could we please look elsewhere? We can buy some fat, alcoholic, pub players considerably cheaper from other sources if we really want to...

Fully agree.

Further more, we shouldn't consider any of those surrender monkey Frenchists as N 'Zogbia has been shit or batter loving Scots after Hutton.

That's been the priority for how many years now?  More than I care to remember.  Hopefully Lambert does something about it.

With Habib Beye out of the picture too, nearer £175k/week I'd say!

I would love our new manager to bring in Ricky Lambert from Southampton.

If he wants to bring in another striker of that mould then I think it could be Danny Graham.  Already got a bit of PL experience and has got age on his side too.

problem i have with the Villa squad at the moment is its just so boring,
even when we have been crap in the past we have always had someone on the books who could get you out of your seat, we are missing that player now especially since Ashley Young left

Ireland is the closest, but i dont know whether he is what i'm taliking about, N'zog has been rubbish so far and then we are struggling, i cant think of one player who excites me and gets me of my seat when he recieves the ball.

a player like Ben Arfa or Taarabt at QPR is what i mean, i'm not saying we can sign them i'm just using them as an example, i know people will say we cant afford luxury players at the moment but i prefer to call them match winners, and there is always room in any team for one of them.

i just want some excitment down at VP again, and a player or two worth watching because he can do the unexpected, in a good way not a Hutton way.

thats why when someone says we need a defensive midfielder to tighten things up at the back and protect the back 4, i'm thinking, give me a break, i want someone like Le Tiss who would be worth the entrance money alone.

i realise this is a romantic notion, but thats the player i would like us to find, i'm not holding my breath at the moment though, and think you guys looking for the midfield enforcer might get your wish before me
