Wrong topic, but how is St Ledger doing at Leicester?

Watch him playing for Ireland in the Euros.  A couple of years ago I thought he was a good prospect, but he's bummed around the Championship too long to be a viable proposition.

We know of another young hungry defender or two - Clark & Baker.

It's odd though.   You can't ignore his domestic record, where- after a promising spell at Preston- he struggled at Boro.  And he's hardly pulled up any trees at Leicester.

But anytime he has played alongside Dunne at international level he's looked very assured, by no means a weak link. Will be interesting to see how he gets on this summer.

It's possibly more sentiment than anything else, but I wouldn't mind seeing us go for him. The local lad/ boyhood fan angle often gets overplayed in these kind of discussions: in particular reference to the likes of the Moores (who were never Villa fans, from what I understand) and Gabby (not a big football watcher, but Arsenal at a push).

St Ledger was (maybe occasionally still is) a Holte Ender though, so maybe it would actually mean something to him, make him raise his game.  As a squad player, if the fee was reasonable (say in the £1-3 million bracket)  I think we could do a lot worse.

Ben Foster's now a Blues player, so he'll surely be on the market. If the dreaded rumours that QPR want Given come true, I'd love for us to go for him.

He has done very well playing for The Republic Of Ireland, never looked out of place and could well be worth a punt (if you pardon the pun).

Had to smile when I read the Beeb gossip column this morning....

"Sunderland want to sign Republic of Ireland winger Aiden McGeady, 26, who is halfway through a four-year deal at Spartak Moscow. "

Yes, I mentioned earlier in this thread that I know a couple of Wolves fans who said exactly that.

That would be interesting.
He was my prefered choice ahead of CN'Z.

From my observations, Petrov was always undervalued by a lot of people and his ability to read the game and make interceptions wasn't appreciated. Our record with and without him over the past 2 seasons though would be quite telling. He missed a chunk of the season under Houllier and we had a poor run of results, then when he was fit again we finished the season really strongly. Then this season when his illness was announced we could barely get anything.

I think its more to do with him being a great leader and lifts the team so much! Not much mention anywhere that Lambert and Petrov played 5 years together at Celtic. Concerns me it's gone so quiet on how he's doing.

I don't want any more shite Ireland players playing for us! Dunne after his first decent season with us has been an over-all negative influence, as I suspected he'd be. Given while a decent keeper is only going to go downhill from here and the rest of the ROI players are barely above Championship level, albeit managed by one of the all time greats. We already have the two best Ireland players and to be frank they're not even that great, so could we please look elsewhere? We can buy some fat, alcoholic, pub players considerably cheaper from other sources if we really want to...

Sean goes to as many Villa games as he can. Home or away.

If Chelsea are looking to get in the Hulk from Porto, I'd love to have Lukaku off them on a years loan, I know plenty of people aren't keen on loans, training up other teams players etc.. but I think it's a better option than the likes of Holt on a three year contract. Whilst we may have a chunk of money to spend this summer, PL needs to patch up a lot of areas in the team and we're not the most attractive option at the moment. If he can get some decent loans in we may be in a position to attract better players next summer. I'd love us to go for the likes of Luuk de Jong or Olivier Giroud but I don't think we'd be on their radar at the moment.

Sell him for less than £15m and we're mad.
