Rather than pay 5mill for a 31 year old Holt, why not grab 28 year old Pobgregynak for nothing?  Other than signing on fee's etc.  I'd be happy to let Gabby go for around ten mill, I'm sure MON would pay that kind of money

Pobgregynak would be a good signing. I'd certainly like to see him in aa Villa shirt.
I've not said we should sign Holt, just that we shouldn't turn our noses up if the price is right.
I've a feeling Gabby might go too, don't know why, just a feeling.

Agree Nigel.  I think Gabby has been a huge disappointment in the last couple of years, played out of position granted but very poor generally. I'd really like to see a good central midfielder signed.

just had a text from a friend saying what he has heard a transfer budget will be, he claimed 10 million has been promised and additional funding for a special player also any money raised from sales will be pumped straight back in, and also claimed there is no upper limit on wages budget much in the same way bent was funded as a special player,

this is the same friend who claimed to see bent in bupa having a medical the day before we officially signed him. I believe him in hope more than expectation, it would be nice to think that we could throw 15+ million on a player as a special treat.
has anybody else had any supposed itk's claiming budgets?

The media are claiming between £20 and £25m.
Randy's had 2 years of cut backs and he must realise that he must start investing again, so I reckon those figure won't be that far off the mark, and I'm sure PL wouldn't have taken the job without an investment promise.

This is the beginning of a new era. Gabby needs a new challenge. Sell for £10m + add the £20-£25m + the sale of Dunne  - Warnock -  Delfonso - Hutton - and a couple of others. This would give us a massive war chest and give Lambert a great start to establish the type of team and players he wants to mould this team into top half/top six team ...........

Totally agree with that Walters Warriors. Gabby needs a new challenge without a doubt.

Looks like I'm in the minority, but I'd be heartbroken if we sold Gabby. I still think he has a lot to offer.

The size of the 'war chest' is largely dependent on others buying players who clearly we have no faith in. Honestly, who would pay a fee to take Hutton Warnock and Fat Boy , especially with their wage demands? Much better planning with just the new money budget and anything over and above through sales, treat as a bonus. I really think Gabby should be given one last chance under a more enlightened manager.

If he gets back to his form then yes,if by halfway through the season he is still not doing the job then put him on the transfer list. Might just wake him up a bit.

Dunne could have great Euro and we could get top dollar if he does. I am sad to have to say Gabby should go, but we have to start a rebuild and i do seriously think he needs a new challenge and we need a fresh approach. Lambert is much more of a technical manager and Gabby is far away from that vision. Danny Murphy/Makoun can replace the Petrov role and we have to change our supply to Bent. So different "types" of players are needed to move forward ......

For the first few months of the season Gabby was outstanding for us and would have been back in the England squad if it wasn't for injury. If he's been playing through the pain barrier since then it's bound to have affected his form. Lets see how he starts the new season before talking about getting rid. He's one of us. We should back him, not sell him.

Gabby playing in his position in the right formation with confidence is a formidable player ....why get rid until we know if the incoming manager can get the best out of him....come January let's see but for now I'd stick rather than twisting

Not keen on Holt. Cascarino Mk.2.

Bent is the goal scorer and a much better one than Holt. Other areas is where we need players, such as players who can give Bent the chances to finish.

but a big no to Holt. We have Bent and Weimann...

And that's it though apart from an out of form Gabby.  Part of our downfall in the past few seasons has been strength in depth, especially when Bent got injured.  We cant pin our hopes on a player coming back from a bad injury and a kid and we shouldn't turn our noses up at a player who got 17 goals last season, who is available and who the gaffer knows well.

If he's cheap then fair enough...but they want around £6 million for a 31 year old with one season in the Prem? We need more forwards but I don't see Holt as one of them...

Here's hoping Mr. Tickle brings in Bosingwa on a free to replace hutton, and Grant Holt to partner Bent.
Agree on Boswinga, as long as his wage demands aren't too bad.

Every time I have seen Boswinga he has been awful. Can't defend at all. Know a lot of Chelsea fans (don't we all) that do not rate him whatsoever...
