17 goals playing for Norwich in the prem can't be ignored

Nope he had a good season and if he was in his early to mid twenties then yeah maybe. However he's approaching 32, would cost a decent fee and is not someone who's looked after his fitness. He is definitely one to avoid.

How much is left on his contract - I reckon he might do a job for a couple of seasons if the price is right.

I'm not sure but Norwich turned down £5 million for him in January, so they'd probably ask more and I'd want no part of that. Also Holt seems a bit full of his own importance to be honest.

I don't want Grant Holt anywhere near VP. He's 31, very technically limited and encourages the worst instincts of defenders, ie the hoof. We shouldn't be signing 30+ year olds in general, but certainly not ones who have proven so little. Strikers are overvalued as well, so would be extortionate in that regard anyway. Plenty of strikers have good one-off seasons, but where are Michael Ricketts, Shaun Bartlett and Marcus Stewart now, to name but a few?

I read somewhere that Yakubu has a clause in his contract that if Blackburn were relegated her can go to a premier league team for £1m, if true, he must be a better option than Holt?

He is a better option, but if we're looking for a striker(I don't think it's a priority) then I'd rather we were more imaginative and looked further afield. Look how Cisse has done for Newcastle. They bought him for £10 million, he'd probably cost over double that now.

Holt's just a classic bad signing at this stage. I would hope we'd be a bit more imaginative.

But £10m is a big chunk of any potential transfer kitty we will have, £1m we could probably get back if we sold the 'Fonz.

Cisse was just an example of how you can get good value abroad. I don't think we need a striker really, midfield and defence is the priority.

Holt's actually been tweeting this morning to re-emphasise that's he asked to leave the club. I don't follow him, but evidently someone I do has re-tweeted. When I then clicked on his account to read his feed and recent tweets, there's one from a few days ago also denying these rumours that he and Lambert had a bust-up.

It's an inevitable link. If he was on a free for a season or two it wouldn't be the end of the world. A player that the new manager knows about and knows how to get the best out of. However, it wouldn't be free, and I don't think the club are going to sanction the signing of 30+ age players having done a good job of late dumping a number of them, and still have a few to go.

I'm not sure it's a case of the club not sanctioning it, but I'd be surprised if, in the interviews he impressed in, Lambert stated his intention to bring in a 31 year old one season big lump for £5m+. Don't know if the club would have been too impressed with that.

I just think that the direction we are sailing Monty is away from that kind of transaction. I don't doubt that Lambert will look at buying a Holt type player, and like I said if the entire deal is perfect, it cannot be discounted. It just won't be because the player is hot and his club will try and get as much as possible for him which doesn't fit into what we are doing.

Well I do doubt that a Holt-type player will be in his thinking, or rather I hope so. A specifically large target man striker really isn't a priority if it ever is.

I was daydreaming about future signings last night, and I wondered if we slapped down a generous bid for Frimpong, would Arsenal consider selling?

Probably not,but they've let up and coming players go in the past.

There are numerous holes to fill first, so I agree there. However, everything in stages, and he's not going to revolutionise the club as soon as he walks through the door. Be it Holt or anyone else for that matter up front, he needs to find a way of making Darren Bent the best he can be. If it means a strike partner then so be it. If it means an aggressive and attacking midfield and wing system behind it, then great. I really don't care as long as we are scoring goals again and working tirelessly to stop leaking them.
