We could do a lot worse than Clarence Seedorf you mean. Even at 36 he could be very useful and work with the kids we have coming through. The likes of Gardner and Herd could learn a lot from him.

We should attempt to sign Fraser Forster, Clyne, Guthrie and Moses as Guzan, Cuellar, Stan and Heskey's replacements.

Seen Guthrie mentioned a few times.  Is he really any better than the likes of Herd and Gardner?  We should be looking to make improvements not just bringing in players of the standard we already have.

I was thinking that. I'd also rather have Michael Sheen at right back than Alan Hutton! ;)

Or maybe we could stop our hopeless policy of only buying players from the English leagues?

That Nick Powell kid looks good.
He's got a few looking at him and we should be one of them.

For the money, Clyne, Guthrie and Moses would be good signings for us in fairness. I think they are going to go fairly cheaply in comparison to what they offer, so I would not be against them.

And Forster plays abroad. Sorted.

This is a speculation thread.  Essien is a player that I wouldn't mind having at VP.  People on here mentioned him in the previous page. I used the word "also" by mistake in the sentence about NRC. If RDM does become our Manager, who knows who he'll try to bring to the club but if Essien was one of those players, I wouldn't be too upset.
There was a rumour that he was being released along with Kalou and Bosingwa, hence his name coming up.

He wasn't (people obviously hadn't checked how long his contract was) meaning that it's a bit irrelevant now.
You're correct in saying it's irrelevant now, Dave, but in fairness if you read, or hear, something regarding so and so being available I can't see many, if any, running to check their contract details.
Hence the title of the thread:

Forster plays for Newcastle.

I'm sorry, but if there isn't a better central midfield option for us in Europe than Danny Guthrie then I'm Moustapha Salifou.

Yes Danny Guthrie should not be considered, we need to look to Germany, France or Holland. There will definitely be someone better available.

Nah, he plays in Scotland, and Danny Guthrie plays in Europe.

You're not one of those that prefers olive-skinned foreign types with alice bands, are you?

Nope. I'd be quite happy with a sturdy yet cultured Swede, Dutchman, German, Frenchman or Dane.

Rather than some mediocre nobody from Newcastle's reserves.

To be honest, Moses is a bit rubbish - I thought however well he played towards the end of last season is largely a tribute to Martinez' management, actually. Guthrie is also irredeemably Britisher-football in the worst, most technique-less way.

I said exacxtly the same to Mrs N last night. He might be 36 but from what I saw of him last season he can still play.  He'd be ideal sitting in a midfield with young ones doing his running for him.

And he seems to be a very decent fellow as well.
