Bosingwa. Chuckle. Those were the days!

The only Chelsea cast off I'd be looking at would be Benayoun tbh if Arsenal don't want him full time.

To think we actually thought MON might buy a foreign player... a big name at that. How wrong we were!

Essien legs have pretty much packed up tbh, I'm not sure he can hack the top level anymore.

Awesome player at his peak though.

Who was the other portuguese full back who's name without fail popped up every summer.....admiral Nelson was it?

I'm sure I saw him play for Valencia at Stoke a few months back but can't really remember.

Another reason why I hope we go for a non-British manager. Sick of seeing us going for boring predictable players still living in the old days while other clubs taking a gamble on foreign players. I think Newcastle have signed another excellent French player in Amalfitano.

So Boswinga in at right back, Kalou up top, Essien in midfield. Owen as cover, Diame alongside Essien, Hargreaves on the bench..... Cuellar resigned for centre half, Guzan in goal..

You've forgotten Heskey!

I wouldn't mind Essien.  He might have to play a different role these days in terms of his legs going but I think he'd be good in the midfield anchor role for Villa. I doubt we'd pay his wages but I certainly wouldn't mind him being at VP for a couple of years.  Still a better option that Reo-Coker, who is also available.

Except Essien's not actually available is he?

He's contracted to Chelsea until 2015.

This is a speculation thread.  Essien is a player that I wouldn't mind having at VP.  People on here mentioned him in the previous page. I used the word "also" by mistake in the sentence about NRC. If RDM does become our Manager, who knows who he'll try to bring to the club but if Essien was one of those players, I wouldn't be too upset.

There was a rumour that he was being released along with Kalou and Bosingwa, hence his name coming up.

He wasn't (people obviously hadn't checked how long his contract was) meaning that it's a bit irrelevant now.

But thats largely been the case for the past 20 + years. Its almost like the core culture of the club in terms of transfer policy has been to buy good players near or past their sell by date, players that didn't quite make it at a top club, or players that looked good in a relegated (or close to) team. With one or two exceptions of course. And it's been like that under 2 regimes.

We could do a lot worse than signing Olly Murs and some ratboy from JLS.  We'd fill the bloody ground every home game.
