I always liked NRC and would have him back if a) his wage demands are realistic and b) we can't get/afford anyone better in the DCM role.

Surging runs when he ran into a dead end and we lost the ball again.

Yeah, I think we'll leave it there. Herd wil be a better player and there will certainly be better players our there not asking for £50-60k p/w.

Preferable to have that for a half a minute than to hoof it straight back to the opposition. Not saying we should sign him, just that he was better than he's given credit for. I remember NRC being immense in our win at Anfield.

If he is asking for that fair enough, but I would take him back on 30k a week. Herd is a good player, but not close to having the hassling ability of Reo Coker yet, and if out, we have no one at all in that role. Strengthening there is a must, and on a free I would have him back.

as far as i was aware he was offered a new contract last summer on a reduced contract ( rumored to be 35000 ) and turned it down  to get what he was already on then at bolton what makes you think he'd take circa 30k now?

He's not free though Ozz, his wage demands would be significant.
Yes, we definitely need a player or two in that position but somebody with more to his game than Reo Coker I think.
I also disagree on Herd not having the hassling ability of Reo Coker. Very much parity in that regard I think and Herd is more versatile.

I dont dislike Reo Coker and I'm not trying to make him out to be bad player but I've had a gutful of limited players now and I want to see some quality and versatility in there. And value for money.

I prefer our players to be better when they have the ball, not without, therefore - NRC = no deal.

Agreed. The guy couldnt pass a pass 10 yards away. Besides how are we gonna lure him from the C.League club he went to?

Time for fans to get rid of there old school thinking and stop wishing these British plodders on our club. Move into the 21st century people.

Exactly.  He's exactly the sort of player I never want to see in a Villa shirt again.  Lots of energy but zero footballing intelligence.  I think both Herd and Gardner offer everything NRC does, with the added benefit of being much better footballers.  I think it's telling that even on a free transfer last season, the best NRC could do for himself was Bolton.  In his head he's an Arsenal standard player, but I'm afraid he's just nowhere near good enough.

It seems Olof Mellberg is available on a free from Olympiakos - I know he is 34 and a centre back (and the old adage is 'never go back') but I'd definitely take him over Alan Hutton.

Never go back.

Unless Milner wants to come for a small fee.

Spot on Risso . If he just used his brain and gave it straight to a Villa player who could pass , he would have be fine. But yes, he thought he was an Arsenal player and decided to go on a run trying to beat 4 players and losing the ball or doing a Gerrard pass giving it back to the opposition.

Milner coming back would be a bit nice.

Could have used him this season.  I'm hoping we won't be as desperate as to need him next.
Agree.
We were a push over in midfield this season.
I liked NCR, he was a grafter for the team and always put a shift in, we certainly missed his 'hustle and bustle' style this season.
But, as you say, hopefully, we won't be in that position next season.

Milner's an interesting one as fuck knows how much Man City will be spending again this summer.

Spurs benefited from that with a loan for Adebayor, so we should similarly be seeing if there's players like Milner available this year.

I would be in for him on loan. He has become more and more a bit part, and should be going as first choice centre mid and chance of captain for England. His move has been like the SWP to Chelsea, just stagnated him.

Am I only one thinking that days of Adam Johnson are over in Man City? He would probably have takers on other teams too and price and his wages might be too high for Villa.

No, Ive mentioned Johnson before. He should be considered and will be leaving Man City this summer.
The only problem is, he's a bit of a piss artist. So maybe go for Hoilett or Sinclair instead.
