I like lichaj's commitment. But he's looked poor on the ball and positionally to me.
I agree about some of his ball-usage but I think his positional play has been pretty good: he covered for Dunne and Carlos a couple of times yesterday through good reading of the game. Certainly way ahead of the experienced Hutton in terms of positional play.

I think he has let a few people ease past him by diving in. And where was he for the last minute chance yesterday? I don't think he was within 10 yards of the player on his side.
Maybe but I think he's showing some serious promise ... perhaps I'm just comparing him with some pretty mediocre performances from other players.

I definitely think he has shown promise.  I also think it is worth repeating that his strongest side is on the right of defence.

Mariappa is a good player. Newcastle and Wigan tried to get him in January but failed.

25 years old, club captain and almost 300 appearances. He's ready to step up.

Sounds like a ballroom mince.

"Dancing the Mariappa. Bobby Davro and his partner Susanna Nikabolokov".

Sky Sports understands Hannover forward Didier Ya Konan is being watched by a number of Premier League sides, with one club purportedly ready to make an offer.

The player has been on the radar of a number of teams for a couple of years but an impressive season in the Bundesliga has catapulted him on to a number of Premier League clubs' wish lists.

An overhead goal against Bayern Munich has been the highlight of another successful season that followed on from being voted runners-up in the Player of Season awards last term.

The playmaker has had a busy season with his club side making the quarter-finals of the Europa League and his nation finishing as runners-up in the African Cup of Nations.

Konan, 27, is under contract with Hannover until June 2014 and is thought to be valued in the region of €6million.

As well as contributing four assists in the Europa League he has, since the end of February, grabbed four goals, three of those in the club's last four Bundesliga games.

All the more impressive is that those goals have come against Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, Borussia Monchengladbach and Wolfsburg.

Sky Sports understands = we've made this up.

But probably the sort of deal we need to be looking at if we're not operating at the top end of the market.

Clyne, Tomkins, Mariappa, Guthrie, O'Hara, Phillips, Zaha, Moses, Jay Rodriguez

All of those are relatively young but experienced, and have racked up a load of games. All are available.

Replace some of the experienced players who are going through the motions (presumably Cuellar, Heskey, Warnock) with younger, hungrier players... but players who have a pedigree unlike our youngsters.

Steven Davis and Hargreaves to add a bit of experience (I think Hargreaves has been available alot for City, but not been selected).

Given
Dunne, Collins, Mariappa, Clark
Hutton, Clyne, Lichaj
Davis, Hargreaves, Ireland, Herd, Bannan, Delph
N'Zogbia, Phillips, Moses, Marc
Bent, Gabby, Weimann

Get in a left back and a subkeeper (Kello?)

You've still got Baker, Stevens, Gardner and Carruthers around to be loaned out for a few months.

I'd just like to add - I'd prefer us be more ambitious and look abroad. But it's a way to go that's worked for Norwich and Swansea.

I'd rather have Olsson than Dunne.. but Douglas, as stated, should be a definite.

Papers today are saying Newcastle have got Douglas in their sights.

I wonder how relevant it is that Wigan's recent excellent form coincides almost exactly with when Diame was moved from the first team to the bench.

They've been also been good since Maloney got back from injury. I'd happily have him back, he looked a decent footballer.
