I agree. His pace is only an asset if he uses it well John. Michael Owen had pace and used it to brilliant effect. Gabby, not so much.

Yes, it needs to be used right.  As I've said on here before, Gabby does not have a great 'footballing brain' to make the best use of his pace, so needs a manager that can do it for him through effective tactics.

IMO Gabby should be sold off.  He is not going to get any better whoever the manager is.  He needs a fresh challenge as he has become too comfortable here.  The fact he has no footballing brain clearly indicates he is crap!  People harp on about his pace and strength - whoopi do!  Whats he gonna do when his pace has gone?  If Sunderland want him then I say lets sell him to them for the right price.

I think a large majority dont want him to go but theres a small minority (which im part of) wouldnt be upset if he was sold and to be honest, would be happy to see the back of him.

I wouldn't say I WANT him to be sold, but I can see how it makes sense where we have Bent and play 1 up top, plus need the money to buy a genuine wide player.

Its not tosh Mr Rodent. The main point being with Gabby he is to comfortable he needs to get out of his comfort zone. All his baby mommas probably live within 20 minutes of him. Would love him to be more consistent but any bid 8 million plus move him on..

Thought you were linking his age of football take-up and his fandom.

Fandom has not really had anything to do with many players choice of football club once enticed away.

Since being moved back into his favoured role and being handed the captaincy, he has the opportunity to go out there and prove to everyone how good he is but he cant even do that.  What more motivation does he need?  Theres only so much a manager can do or say so a player has to take some of the blame as well.

David Beckham for example (im not comparing the 2 players playing ability), when he got dropped from the Real Madrid starting line up when Capello was incharge, what did he do?  He worked his socks off and when he got his chance back in the team, he made it difficult for him to be dropped again.  Ok, slightly different scenario but what im saying is that Becks, no matter how cheesed off he was with being dropped, worked his socks off and gave his all everytime he came on to the pitch.  He didnt even support Real Madrid but knew how much of a priviledge it was to put on the shirt.

Gabby should be doing the same as in whenever he puts the villa shirt on, he should go out and give 200% and shut up all his doubters (me!).  Forget about the manager.  Focus on performing for the team and helping them to win matches.

Here is a great article of transfer policy by that Simon Kuper bloke.  It’s very long but well worth reading
http://www.miostadium.com/opinions/simon-kuper/best-way-build-winning-team

I guess it’s stating the obvious having read the article but it should always be our policy to buy the type of player described.

I'm back after being away for a refreshing incommunicado week in Somerset.

Can somebody summarise the week that was (I'm up to speed on that double Judas bastard Ashley Young, curses be upon him) please.

Pretty quiet Maz.

Rumours of Inter offering players plus cash for Ivanhoe, but I can't see us going for it in all honesty.

He is the heartbeat of the club.

While you've been away, there has been a ban on abuse of players and Managers.
So you can cut that out with the Ashley Young insult.

Craig Whyte wants to buy the club and appoint Trevor Francis as manager in the summer when he is fit enough.

So lots of decisive exciting action.
..
I hope Randy is flying in to wash that man right out of hair, but realise he probably isn't.
