Andy Johnson is pretty much exactly the sort of signing we don't need. Old, injury prone and high wages. Those are the three categories not to go for.

There is a game on telly now that I am watching between a team called BAY and a team called RM. I have spotted some useful players  in this match that we should be targetting this summer. After a suitable period in Villa reserves they could be ready to join the first team squad.

Turnover of £100m, RL wants a wage to turnover ratio of 70%, so about £70m,Working on a squad of 25, thats about an average of £60k per week.
Which is fine, but there are far more people employed by a football club the the first-team squad. They will take up the bulk of it, but there are potentially hundreds more people who will need to fit into that overall wages budget.

40k a week, what a bleeding hardship!!  I'm sure they'll be able to claim some benefits as well.  They need to get real.  Money is ruining the game.

Cant not agree with you anymore!  Been saying it for ages that money has ruined the game.

I agree 100% no 200%
Phew, if it had only been 100% I would have assumed you were lacking something somewhere.

Football commentary has so much to answer for.

Aston Villa target Bas Dost has been in talks with German side Wolfsburg. The 22-year-old Heerenveen striker is currently the top scorer in the Netherlands.

More bollocks from TalkSport then. Dost was interviewed this week for a Dutch football magazine and said that he has considering Germany because he had a strong emotional attachment to Germany than England.

I believe Modric was on a LOT less than £40k a couple of seasons ago.  It was only when he started making noises about wanting to move to Man U/Chelsea that they upped his salary.

I suppose it depends on how persuasive  Arther Numan is.
It's nice to be linked with these guys, but sometimes it's a bit deflating when nothing materialises.

Add in that he spends most of the time on his backside on the pitch, and he would be a straight swap for Heskey.

MON would have signed Andy Johnson.
I'd rather give Weimann a run.

If the highlight of our summer is signing Andy Johnson from Fulham, then we are in the shit...., although saying that I cant wait for the return of Stephen Davies from Glasgow Rangers LOL, these type of signings will get folk queing around the block to  buy their Season Tickets NOT!!!

If we are not careful I honestly believe we could be the next Sheffield Wednesday!

Yep, except with our board we'd have to be a Thursday wouldn't we? Always behind.

It just shows how much the stock of our club has fallen.

It wasn't so long ago that we were going to be the next Leeds.

The quality of players coming in this summer has to be a major concern. It must be apparent to anyone with eyes by now thats the kids aren't ready and won't be next season either. we're probably screwing them up having to play them all the time now, so we need real ability coming in because the few senior players we have for the most part aren't good enough themselves, let alone able to nursemaid the kids. Mlcleish or not, its going to be tough next season if all we get is a load of free transfers

Newcastle and Levante in Spain have demonstrated that you don't have to spend big to be competitive at the top end of the table.

But yes, I do think a major overhaul is required.
