The Bouma who told Heurelho Gomes we weren't big enough for him?

Sounds like we owe him a pint.

"23-year-old, 6ft 4in striker is quick and can also play on the wing."

Not that much like Zigic then.

If it had said... "The 31 year-old, 9ft 18in striker is a towering shambles of fail and can also decorate ceilings" then perhaps.

Beat me to it Maz. If by Zigic mark two, he meant nothing like Zigic at all, then I agree.

When Ziggy Shitdust was linked with Blues and us before they said nice things like that too. Journalists tend to make even the shittest players sound good.

Looking back, only Baros proved to be a poor signing. Bouma ended up being superb following the Chelsea home game at start of 07, Laursen was a beast, Sorenson just not fancied by Mon, and Milner still feels like he should be ours! Hughes was better than much we have now and has been for Fulham for a long time, Solano was a real bargain, and Berger and Phillips did well, the latter leaving way too soon IMO. Berson, McCann and Djemba Djemba were the worst of them really.

I'd swap that team for the current one in a heartbeat Only position where its probably weaker is attack and thats debatable

Considering the money spent, it is a scary reality though isn't it.

The money spent is only relevant in relation to the players still here.  It's still more than the Bouma/Laursen/Baros side, but given inflation not that dramatically.

Wages are of course the bigger contrast.

Really? Laursen as good as he was rarely played, same for Berger and Phillips. Sorensen is not as good as either of the Brad's or Given. Fat Baz was spectacularly average most of the time until MON arrived and regularly tried to leave. Solano couldn't wait to leave when his beloved Jawdees came calling. Personally i'd prefer not to build a side around injury prone players and players happy to leave at the drop of a hat.

"Ik ken de club niet heel goed" means, roughly, "I don't know a lot about the Club."

I think it means " I don't know a lot about the club" "however" "we do know the manager is having a laugh and I don't want to be there when the wheels fall of".

It either that or he's commenting on the fact that Danish Bacon just got a lot saltier.

Oldham Evening Chronicle are reported to be putting together a scoop linking Paul Scholes with Villa next season, provided Utd win the league.

I believe Scholes will sign an extension with Man Utd but this kind of thing is always the danger with having a manager who is a stooge of Ferguson's.  As with Bruce, if Fergie wants to offload any surplus stock for a nice price all he need do is give one of his lackeys a call and hey presto Man Utd get rid of a little headache smoothly and with little fuss.  And they get decent money into the bargain.  Fergie's like a mafia don and has far too much control and influence in the game.   That we've allowed one of his stooges to get into Villa Park sickens me, to be honest...but that's for another thread.

Yeah, sell the Monet for some money and buy some players.

I've never been too keen on having Impressionists at full back. Fauvism is the way to go. Someone in the Stan Lynn mould like that Henri Matisse would be ideal.
