It'd be good to corner the best of a country's young players, especially as the Dutch have been a bit special over the years.

Yep it makes sense to me, something we have been very poor at in the past. You can get a lot better value on the continent.

Heerenveen striker Bas Dost has confirmed that Aston Villa are showing an interest in landing him.

The Dutch Under-21 international is currently the top-scorer in the Eredivisie.

Spanish giants Valencia have also been linked with Dost, and he has now revealed he is aware Villa want him.

"It is positive news," he told Voetbal Primeur.

"You hear this and of course it is nice to know they are interested.

"Aston Villa is a club I don't know very well, but they look good.

"I have spoken with my agent and we won't be discussing anything during the season."

Villa have already made one move on Dutch football, after agreeing a Bosman deal for AZ Alkmaar's Brett Holman.

Have they given him the old "History of Aston Villa" VHS from the late 80's to watch because I doubt he'd be saying that if he is keeping an eye on recent events.

On the subject of Wolves, I over-heard a conversation at work yesterday between 3 dingles discussing who they'll sell when they get relegated (they're already prepared for it), they came to the subject of Jarvis and all were convinced he'd end up at either United, City or Chelsea, when I stepped in and said he'd end up at Fulham or Blackburn I was told I did'nt know what the fuck I was talking about cus I'm a Villa c***, suppose i'll give them that one though.

I sit opposite a Dingle at work, and made a joke recently along the lines of "when you get relegated, we'll have him" regarding Jarvis, to which he said - and he was being serious - "he's not good enough to play for Villa".

I ignored his opinion on Jarvis, and just took heart in the fact that some Dingles still recognise the natural pecking order of clubs round these parts.

If you've ever spent a small amount of time watching Dutch telly you'd realise that it is better to watch paint drying than watch endless discussion shows or US crimes series.

As regard Dost, it would be very astute from Villa and if McLeish has done his homework over here, he would also have spotted Bony at Vitesse, Immers at ADO and Strootman at PSV. One striker and two tough midfielders would certainly be good additions to the team...... The FC Twente defender Douglas is also available on a Bosman at the end of the season and I would not be surprised at all to seem him coming, especially as someone I know saw McLeish scouting at Twente last month.

Maybe he's only see our reserves play.

Like the look of Das Boot, and Holman in fairness. If we could smuggle a player like Overmars and Davids out, while seeing if they have a left back to go with it then it would be great. I can see the point in trying the Newcastle method with the Dutch, although there are a fair few Dutch football stars that have not really made the transition.

As well as Dost, has Simon Poulsen been mentioned on here? Danish left back playing for AZ in Holland

Good player.
Has the added bonus of not being Neil Warnock.

I like the Holman deal and the firmer links we've seen seem to suggest a good transfer policy ahead.  But they also mean AM is going nowhere.  Some will see that as a negative, but for me it's a reason to be hopeful that he intends to set our faults right during the summer.

Pretty much all left backs have this bonus, even Stephen Warnock himself!
