Of course I don't think they're a joke. I could go to The Glee Club twice a week to watch comedy for the amount I pay to sit at VP every week. I'll say it again, I was just making a sardonic joke about Messi sitting in a bar on match day in Broad St saying what a mistake he made. It wasn't a serious observation FFS, it was a light hearted comment. You shouldn't take every remark on here so seriously, you'll give yourself a heart attack.

Probably not the right thread for this, but I also disagree that Villa are 'a joke'.

However, what are they? At the moment I'm going for 'a cruel mistress'. Any other suggestions?

Yes Villa are a joke.

We spend millions and millions talking about bright future etc.

Then we cut back spending and decide the best way to get our wage bill down and stay in the league is to pay our closest rivals millions for there manager who is a proven failure and the complete opposite to the type of manager a club in our position needs.
And all this against a massive backlash from the majority of fans.

So Randy sticking 2 fingers up at all of us makes us a joke.

The damage all this is doing is going to have lasting effects.

I'd take Jarvis and Fletcher from Wolves. In a heartbeat. If we're stuck with McLeish I'd go for Johnson as well - he knows the player and can get him playing.

McLeish couldn't get a child playing with his toys.  He's useless.  Pointless spending any money with him in charge of the club.  He simply will not get the best out of any player.

Jesus the transfer threads here have become just hideously depressing. Is it truly what we've come to that people would actually want some of the shite at Wolves or Wigan? I almost found myself thinking that some of these might be quite good.

Bloody hell. I remember when we had some decent players and got linked with the odd decent player, even if O Neill was always destined to ignore said player for an over priced, mediocre Brit.

It shocks me how far we've collapsed in the last two years. What a joke. I think I'm gonna have to retire from this thread whilst McLeish is at the club. It's only gonna be painful.

Not so long ago it was all "Hiddink? Villas Boas? Benitez ? maybe even Benzema signing for us.
Now we are rooting through the Wolves squad list.
How lower can our expectations of this sorry situation get.
We want Mick McCarthy ?

On the subject of Wolves, I over-heard a conversation at work yesterday between 3 dingles discussing who they'll sell when they get relegated (they're already prepared for it), they came to the subject of Jarvis and all were convinced he'd end up at either United, City or Chelsea, when I stepped in and said he'd end up at Fulham or Blackburn I was told I did'nt know what the fuck I was talking about cus I'm a Villa ******, suppose i'll give them that one though.

Wow, do they think he is that good?
I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up with us at all.  A classic 6m signing that will keep us where we are but is unlikely to be a revelation and improve us or indeed see his value increase very much.

He's the complete winger apparantly, I've never really saw it though.

Quote:
Heerenveen striker Bas Dost has confirmed that Aston Villa are showing an interest in landing him.

The Dutch Under-21 international is currently the top-scorer in the Eredivisie.

Spanish giants Valencia have also been linked with Dost, and he has now revealed he is aware Villa want him.

"It is positive news," he told Voetbal Primeur.

"You hear this and of course it is nice to know they are interested.

"Aston Villa is a club I don't know very well, but they look good.

"I have spoken with my agent and we won't be discussing anything during the season."

Villa have already made one move on Dutch football, after agreeing a Bosman deal for AZ Alkmaar's Brett Holman.

The introduction of what new fresh faces loyal to McLeish might mean keeps me just about on his side. Maybe he just doesn't faith in some the current players to be attacking all the time. If this true, then given his record it looks like a good deal. Then again Boro thought that of Alves.
