Didn't he apparently turn us down for a loan move in January in favour of Swansea? which if true says quite a bit about our attraction at the moment.

Clyne at Palace - a player we might have had an interest in I guess - off to Man U according to this:

Apparently his contract is up so united are going to pay £2.5m instead of going to a tribunal. Don’t see why we don’t try for him, from what I’ve seen of him he looks quality and if it is only £2.5m that would be a bargain.

A few of the Swansea players have impressed me this season, they've really got a good style of play. Are they 'one season wonders'... who knows?
A few of them would improve our squad. Could we attract them to Villa Park? Obviously, we are a bigger club, but are they going in an opposite direction to us?

Leon Britton
Nathan Dyer
Ashley Williams
Neil Taylor
Sigurðsson
Scott Sinclair
Danny Graham.

I think you're on about Josh Mchechran (however you spell it).

Hadn’t heard that but I think the attraction to Swansea probably had something to do with Brendan Rogers, I think they worked together at Reading.

I'm pretty sure Sigurdsson was also mentioned.

Agent:  So the choice is yours Nathan.  It's between the two Alex's - either Sir Alex at Man U or Alex McL at Villa?  Which do you fancy?

It would just be nice if we made an attempt to sign him but i see your point, would not be to difficult a decision for him.

To be honest I'd obviously always choose Villa, but that's pure bias. If you look at it from a purely footballing point of view with no emotion attached, there can't be much to attract players to Villa. We are on a very public wage/cost cutting exercise, we don't play attractive football, we are struggling down the bottom of the table, crowds are down and there is tangible tension between the manager and the fans(for the most part). Aside from the fact we've been a big club in the past, where's the appeal if you have a number of options in the Premier League? It doesn't please me to say any of that I'd like to add.

Beye's already gone. Hopefully Heskey will be moved on in the summer. I think the only other big-ish contract up in the summer is Carlos - and I'd rather keep him and sell Duinne.

I think you can add to that Makoun and Delph, as I think both will go.  Plus Warnock, although that's more of a hope.  Problem with the ones still under contract though is that if they don't get similar wages elsewhere, they'll require a pay off.

I'd keep Makoun personally although it's likely he'll be off which is a shame. We've not seen enough of him.

Most players get a pay-off anyway by way of loyalty bonus clauses in their original contracts. It's the thing that puts them off handing in transfer requests.

True, but that's not the case when their contract expires.  So any contracted player we sell is not straight profit and money saved from the wagebill, as there are costs associated with booting them out the door!

I am pretty sure Swansea will get Sigurdsson and Fulham Progrobnyak, although both would have made astute signings for us. Lets see what our scouting side comes up with

And I'm pretty sure if we want either player we'd get them above the clubs mentioned.
