He's had terrible injury problems.

He's also 32.

Sad to see us have to shop for players like this.

According to Twitter were announcing the signing of Ivica Olic from Bayern this week

Who is saying that?

Prominent Villa tweeter banned from most forums at some point.

Olic is an over the hill continental Heskey i.e a forward who doesn't score.

Lets wait and see who it actually is before we comment on how it reflects on the club's current standing.

Yeah, we don't know who it is yet.

I didn't think that Keane would be a good signing, but I was wrong. We have a load of kids coming through. Realistically we aren't going to be able to buy players for £10million plus for the near future so bringing in a couple of experienced heads might not be a disaster.

Olic could be the player that Nilis could've been. If you see what I mean.

Still, no point in getting hopes up, we'll see what happens.

An aging striker with good ability from the continent?  Also describes Luc Nilis.

We might be surprised, we might not, but I just don't think the speculation is a reasonable barometer of the club's summer plans.

I heard McLeish was at the FC Twente - Schalke game last week, maybe he's looking at Raul?

Surely the Summer plans have already been stated by McLeish, John.

'A couple on low fees and some Bosmans.'

His wages are astronomical and if Schalke manage to get a Champions League place or one in the Europa League he'll stay there I think.

I've heard another name mentioned - Brett Holman. He's an Australian striker with AZ Alkmaar at the moment.

Wouldn't surprise me if we were after Brett out of Flight of the Conchords.

I've said it before, but getting Bosman's seems a strange approach for a club that is trying to reduce it's wage bill.

(Although we should definitely put a bid in for Hoillet.)

We are being linked with Jermaine Jones from Shalke, who from all I know Blackburn fans were excited to sign then very unimpressed by last season. But he is young and combative isn't he? And free.

Edit - no he is 30? So not young at all.

Edit again! Dante - I agree re Hoilett and the Wigan trio although Rodelaga may not be worth the wages unless a forward moves on.

Not really got an issue with signing Olic, he is a good footballer, which Heskey is not and a bit of guile and experience up front is useful, although not sure where he will play assuming we stick to the current formation. Wingers, defenders and central midfield players. A back up forward if money can stretch.

Where's the fun in that though John. ;)
